After the murder of her parents, FBI Agent Devin Ladue has only three things on her mind. Revenge, catch the mole, and to protect key witness to the murder, Lane Steelman. She has a month to make sure he stays alive long enough to attend court. That is until, close proximity to Lane brings forth unwanted desire and guilt.

Lane Steelman, a reporter and witness to a high profile murder, knows his life will never be the same again. He agrees to become the bait to fish out 'the mole', and along with Devin, travels across the country. Ever since he'd seen Devin's photo, the desire he feels for her has grown. But the thought of a month in her company is pure torture, especially since he can never make her his.

Much of this novel revolves around the internal conflict of the two main characters who are fighting their attraction for one another. There are heavy doses of internal dialogue throughout which sometimes serves to slow down the action. The suspense comes in the form of Devin protecting Lane at all costs, putting her life on the line for him on several occasions. Devin is a somewhat confusing mixture of virginal innocence and kick-ass woman that at times seemed at odds with each other. She never quite came together for me. I personally found the mix of an innocent virgin with her take-no-prisoner attitude jarring. Lane is sexy and rather charming. A fine upstanding hero.

Reminiscent of the early Silhouette Intrigues, Fueled By Instinct is a novel that would appeal to readers that love romances with lots of angst-ridden personal conflict with a touch of suspense.
