| Callie felt like she belonged anywhere. She was born into a group that called themselves Seralins. Seralins are a group of watchers that exist between the vampires and humans. Callie has found a journal belonging to the vampire, Marcus. Marcus writes of his lost love and his tormented soul. Callie falls in love with Marcus through the words of his journal. She goes about to locate him and discover if he is the same as he writes. Marcus warns her away, for it is forbidden for a relationship to develop between vampires and Seralins. He fears for her life and quickly finds himself stepping up as her protector against the vampires and the Seralin that want her dead.
Forsaken by Danielle Devon tells the history of the Seralin. This will be interesting in understanding future books in this series. Forsaken is a uniquely creative story filled with sensuality and intrigue. It takes the character of a girl that is meek and unsure about the world around her and transforms her. Callie becomes someone that can take care of herself as well as those she cares about. This occurs as she goes into the world of vampires where dominance and submission is very strong. She enters on a leash but she is the one that is dominant in the end. Marcus is a tortured soul and the impression is that he is tired of his existence. There are rules against relationships between watchers and vampires. But try as he might Marcus cannot fight the heat of passion that exists between them. Their time together is spent engaging in steamy explicit sex. The dialogue is well written and flows smoothly making for a fast-paced read. The decadent and hedonistic world of the vampire is described in graphic details making it easily imagined. Danielle Devon has created a sensual world filled with vampires where safety does not exist, a world about to experience a drastic transformation.
