| In the 61st century, on the planet Scotia Major exists the last of a dragon triad. His two sisters having gone before him, Arthur is the last. Tired of the suffering and feeling like he has nothing left to live forn Arthur decides to follow his sisters into the Stones of Destiny. Expecting death, Arthur finds a mission. He's being given twenty eight days in human form to find the Druid Solas and return her to her own time.
He of the Fiery Sword is an unusual and intriguing spin on the Arthurian legend. Ms. Moncrief has done a fantastic job of world building. The pictures she painted really made me feel part of the story. Her characters are equally well depicted. Arthur is a masterpiece. Watching him struggle to retain something of his dragon ways while trying to be as human as possible had me laughing and crying. And finding love just as he thinks his life is about to end? That was heartbreaking. Solas isn’t quite a masterpiece but she was still quite nicely written. Her struggle to escape being trapped in the past, only to realize that her soul mate has been returned to her, was fun at times. I think I related to Arthur better because he felt more real. His struggle to adapt was easier to associate with real life happenings. As nicely as Solas was depicted, there were times where she didn’t feel quite real to me. Overall, I found He of the Fiery Sword to be one of those unexpected but happy to find reads. It was definitely what I would call a “different” story. Anyone who likes fantasy worlds and romance mixed with myth and legend should run right out and pick this one up.
