|This is the sixty-second book in the Terran Times series. Yes, I've read them all. They do not need to be read in order. However, I recommend reading Destined (which is the fifty-eighth book in the series) before this one.
This story begins with Jianne Theevin, or Dispatcher, sending her Guardian Team out on a mission. The Guardians have never seen her and know nothing about where she lives or what she does when she isn't guiding them and she is ok with that. Actually, she is very comfortable with doing things this way. You see, our girl manages to assist others or even save others with her gift of seeing what in the situation can solve the problem or by being in the way of something which hurts her, yet saves someone else. It was in one of the situations that she lost one of her eyes, so now she has what I consider a bionic eye. Her current team is about to be switched out for another one and she asks one of the current Guardians, Cyber, to do something for her involving firewalls or other computer stuff. Cyber leaves it for her in her quarters so Jianne has to go in to retrieve it before the arrival of the new team. She wasn't successful.
Basically, the new Guardians know someone was there, they just don't know who. Sigh. So they hunt her down by her scent and find her in her hidden quarters. The new team of Guardians consists of Flare, Cowl, Twist and Roil with Cowl being in charge. Cowl is determined to find her and see if she is his mate. He wouldn't normally just do this but apparently Rhoda, our girl from Destined, has drawn and painted his mate and Jianne is who was painted with him. Cowl is Mah-Duh-Sai which is an alien race we learned about briefly in Waking Dream. He always wears a cowl to cover his face and head because his species can freeze amongst other things any that see them. Since the drawings showed his mate looking directly at him he really needs to see if Jianne is her.
This story is not only about Cowl finding his mate. Ms. Grace has totally given us a mystery or two mixed in with some suspense. We even get to meet Cowl's younger brother! Bionic eye or not, Jianne is a very cool lady. She seems to be fearless, has some great weapons and has an incredible amount of tea. You know, I wasn't really sure how I felt about the Nyal Imperium Guardians introduced to us in Determine (the fifty-seventh book in the series) but I have to say I like them. I enjoy that they are different than the Sector Guard and how unique Nyal Space seems to be. I totally look forward to each of Ms. Grace's next stories!
