| Skye Sebring works in a hospital but not just any hospital. As a hospitality greeter to all those entering Heaven’s pearly gates, one thing is certain; she receives unusual questions from those that enter, not quite sure what is going on. When she has the time, she enjoys watching the reality show, Earthly Pleasures. Then she has the opportunity of meeting the playboy, Ryan Blaine, known as the Bad Boy, after he is involved in an accident and rashly sent to heaven. Not quite his time to die, Ryan is sent back to earth with not much memory of what happened except his acquaintance with Skye. In no time, the two feel a connection that draws them closer together but in the middle of events, Ryan’s wife Susan, who also has her own brush with death, leads a twist in the situation causing an even more chaotic turn of events. In the aftermath, Skye learns sometimes reality has a way of coming very true when she is sent back to Earth.
I think what I liked most about Earthly Pleasures, was not the wit that comes in little doses making the read most enjoyable, but how Skye must learn to deal with matters when she rejoins the living on Earth. Karen Neches has penned a well-written tale with just the right elements to keep the pages turning. This entertaining read captivated me all the way through the last page. I love the witty conversations pieces, the emotions between the players, and the way I could practically see Skye’s facial expressions when some entered Heaven not aware why they were sent there at the wrong time. I found this delightful read quite refreshing and one that shouldn’t be missed. Thanks Ms. Neches for allowing me to remember some of the Beatles songs.
