| Astra Q. Phelps, a Tweener with both devilish and angelic blood has her work cut out for her this time. Even her friends may be powerless to help her. Most of them have been targeted by Satan to help bring about the end of the human race and all those who have good magic power. With even her guardian angel out of commission with the Devil's Plague, help this time may have to come in the form of strangers and acquaintences who don't seem to be as affected by the killing rage that's sweeping the land.
Sam Cheever does it again in a thrilling tale that features one of my favorite heroines of all time. For those who may not have read about her before, Astra is a perfect blend of our favorite champions for justice. With the martial arts moves of Jet Li and Jackie Chan she's also got the savoir faire of James Bond and the straight shooting of Wyatt Earp down pat. She's a healer, a lover, a fighter, and sometimes just a big softie. Her never give up attitude and ability to kick some serious trash right where it hurts has endeared her to me throughout this series Her usual friends and lovers, Dialle, Emo and Myra are present and accounted for though often not as helpful as she wants when she wants. Two shifters, a Venusian giant and a black dragon are among those stepping up to help her fight the bad guys who include her own mother. Even her sister Darma comes out of her magic-hating shell. This is one of those series filled with all the good things I want in fiction. I seriously hope Sam Cheever doesn't run out of ideas for ways to highlight Astra's talents. I can't imagine ever getting tired of books like these where the characters and dialogue make the action come alive for the reader!
