| Christien James seems to fall into a job with the crime syndicate of Lucian Cabrera. He's attracted to Julien Cabrera, knows that being gay would never be tolerated in this Italian family. He starts out slowly learning the business but one night walks in on the family's rival intent on killing Lucian to take over his business. When the night is over he's killed four men, saved the family. Life is about to change.
J. E. Marshall takes us inside the mind and life of a syndicate hit man! The title is totally appropriate for this tale that’s told in the first person by Christien. He draws us into his experiences, asks us what we think about him, tells us what he feels. Few books pull at the reader as much as this one does! It's hard not to have sympathy for Christien as he makes his decisions no matter what those decisions are. Sometimes there's fear that he's making a foolish choice but would either Cabrera ever let him walk away if he chose to? I can't help feeling at times that he makes the only choice he can and thanking God that I'm not in his shoes! This is not light reading for late at night. The characters all seem realistic. Each reader may think differently about those who have a profound influence on his life. What dialogue there is always seems to come with a twist to it as we wonder what is really being communicated by the players. The author has made this a powerful book and I look forward to the next in the series.
