Ricky is kidnapped from her home and child, and held in a werewolf pack until she can mate. The practices are barbaric, and she is forced to deal with separation from her family and friends. Ivan is one of the most feared of all, and at first he treats her like any other captive. But as they slowly start to know one another, she finds out that he's not so bad. This is a surprising book, for one because at first I didn't think there was any way that I would like the pack, and found in the end that I did. Two, because I thought that she would get rescued from it, and she never did. Most of the story didn't go like I thought it would. During the course of the year she was there, I found myself starting to like the men in the pack and even tolerate their behavior, just like she does. That's the mark of a good book I think, one that can make you think something at the beginning and slowly change your mind though out the story. However, I still didn't really like the fact that it was so vicious, although I suppose that a wolf pack would be in some ways just like that. This is a dark and violent book, and I didn't think that there was a lot of romance involved. There are some rather brutal scenes, and I thought it took a long time to heat up the relationship between Ivan and Ricky. I like a strong heroine, and I didn't feel that Ricky was one in this instance. She was a little to passive for me, and too accepting of what had happened to her. I do think that it is a good story, and I certainly would recommend it to anyone who likes a little more substance in their story than the normal romance.
