| In’is’kim, an internationally well known speaker about the history and customs of his Blackfeet people, is barely keeping ahead of a serial killer who seems to want to frame him for the murders. The only thing the murdered women seem to have in common is they received ancient Native American medicine cards before they were murdered. In’is’kim has no idea what is going on and why these women are being murdered everywhere he speaks but he does know he didn’t do it. Skyler Grinnell is apparently the next victim as she has started to receive the cards. Can Skyler and In’is’kim stop the killer this time before he can harm Skyler or her family? And what should they do about their incredible attraction to one another?
I love Native American folklore, stories, histories and tales that include information about their various beliefs. Dark Spirit is a tale of a modern man of Native American ancestry making his living teaching others about his native beliefs, customs, and history. He seems to have integrated well into modern times but still believes in his people’s customs and observes them when he can. Skyler is a feisty, suspicious, independent woman who has had the responsibility of raising her younger sister for ten years. She hasn’t taken time for herself or had any romantic relationships for years so she really doesn’t know what to do about her extraordinary attraction to In’is’kim. Now someone wants to kill her and she has no idea why. Ms. Karnopp does a marvelous job of keeping the reader guessing who the bad guy is and what will happen next. The action starts at the beginning of the story and the reader stays in suspense to the end. I really enjoyed this story! If you enjoy tales of modern day Native Americans, suspense, and romance, you will like Dark Spirit.
