| Hoping to redeem her academic career, Hillary Bennett travels to Scotland in search of some historical annals. Caid Douglas is the outcast of his family and is surprised when he inherits Glendon House Manor. They come to an agreement. He will honor his great-aunt's arrangement. Caid wants to sell his inheritance as soon as possible and the money Hillary will pay to stay at the manor and view the journals will help him to fix the old place. An ancient curse haunts the village and soon people begin dying. Will the killer be caught before Caid and Hillary become the next victims? And can they overcome their pasts and build a future?
I loved this excellent romantic suspense novel. It reminded me of an old-time Gothic horror story with the addition of some contemporary sex scenes. The plot was well developed and the mystery just the right mixture of of intrigue and apprehension. The murderer, when revealed, was so skillfully portrayed as a true psychopath that I got goosebumps. Caid and Hillary had smoking hot chemistry that was so artfully woven into the storyline, the steamy sex scenes had no gratuitousness to them. I must say the one thing I would have liked to see was Caid in a kilt! Both of these characters are so real with their own pasts haunting them that I couldn't help but feel for them. The balance between the past and the present was masterful. The blending of history and the here and now works as superbly in the mystery as it does in both the hero's and the heroine's lives. The setting of the small Scottish town of Culcraig comes to life, full of superstition and rural charm. I highly recommend this to anyone seeking some spine-chilling suspense.
