| Leah Smith lived in Kemah Towers Condominiums and, when she ran into her downstairs’ neighbor, Marcus Slade, she always looked bad. When she came in from a 4-mile run, she was trying to slip by the Concierge’s desk but Mr. Garfield saw her and motioned her over. He had a package for her—it was her 40 advanced copies of her latest novel, A Cowboy’s Dream. The last thing she wanted was to call attention to her sweaty self, but the box was very heavy and Marcus did offer to help.
Marcus Slade, her neighbor, had tried for months to get Leah’s attention. He was the centerfielder for the “Houston Roughriders,” and whenever he saw her it seemed she always had been running. He took her books to her apartment and walked in like he belonged there. It was amazing to find out that Leah, his neighbor, was AKA as Ellen Saxton, his favorite romance author. This fast-paced novella was a great study in opposites attracting each other. The manuscript was well articulated and the characters were sexy and dynamic. The supporting cast was important even in their slight offerings to the storyline. Ms. Lanier represented the careers of the two and made the couple, especially, seem as if they were next door neighbors to all her readers. The book was believable and fun to read. I recommend this book to anyone who wants a feel-good, compact book with a lot of inner parts to hold the readers’ interest.
