A few days ago the world was a safe but dull place for Copper Daly. Then she got a frightening message on her machine from her twin, Crimson. Crimson was missing, so Copper took her place and went about Crimson's life. She didn't believe vampires existed but now she was in love with one. Worse than finding out Bastian was a vampire was finding out he was her sister's boyfriend. She tried to resist the attraction, but she'd never felt this for anyone before. Evangeline, a rogue vampire bent on revenge, had kidnapped Crimson. Everywhere she went they thought she was Crimson, glad to have her back safe, but nobody really liked her. All the people Bastian had taken in off the streets believed she was going to hurt Bastian because it was obvious Crimson wasn't capable of love. Bastian was only pretending he thought she was Crimson. He could tell right away. He'd also gotten one drop of her blood on his lip and it intensified his senses like when he first 'became'. He realized Copper was a conduit. Her blood was like a super serum for vampires. It made their powers into super powers. This placed her life in imminent and extreme danger. Most vampires would drink her dry for the high and to prevent her from mating and making her mate a super vamp. Bastian also realized she was his mate. He didn't dare tell her she was a conduit because a strong vamp would read it in her mind. But if he wasn't honest with her, how could he convince her he wanted her because he loved her and couldn't live without her, even before he knew she would make him super strong among vamps. Once she was mated, if mating was even possible, then she'd be safe. Her blood wouldn't be anything special to anyone but her mate. Bastian had to mate with her soon to save her life. But Copper already doesn't trust men, how could he make her believe him?

This is a fresh new creature in vampire lore. It's a really great story too. I loved Bastian. He's so sexy and honorable. I loved that his maker taught him to not make new vamps lightly. They handpicked and carefully trained anyone they helped to 'become'. If the vamp didn't make the transition and harmed people, he had to kill it. Copper was the perfect mate for Bastian. His character is as good as hers. He took in kids off the street and gave them a safe place to live, protection from pimps, got them a job and taught them to be self-sufficient good citizens. Copper used to live with Crimson, but when their mother got cancer, Copper moved back home to take care of her, even though she really didn't deserve it. Crimson was angry with her for it, but Copper couldn't let anyone suffer alone, especially her mother. Bastian and Crimson had never loved each other. There wasn't anything for Copper to get between. But they weren't willing to get involved until they all came to an understanding. I loved the characters, the story and the book. BLOOD LINES is going to be a series. If the first book is anything to go by, I'd say, "Don't miss a single one."
