Lars has become captain of the guard that does the bidding of the world leader. It seems their leader and his minions have stripped people of their humanity. Like sheep they follow his words and proclamations. Any who don't are killed. Into this world steps Rajiid, a friend and companion from Lars’ youth determined to find a way to end the tyranny.

This is rather a dark tale penned like the world Anastasia Rabiyah describes without overt feeling or color. But the tale also is ripe with memories as Lars makes an attempt to at least think about the world he once knew and the woman he once longed for.

It's frightening to think a world like this could ever exist. It's a good comparison to the world of Hitler or other dictatorships. In this made up world most people were too afraid to rebel or do anything but follow orders just as Lars does no matter what he wants to do. One person in the crowd has the courage to try to protect Rajiid by giving her something to hide the forbidden colors of her clothing, Lars is too indoctrinated. He knows she will die but he stands still and does nothing.

This is a sad tale, a reflection on many parts of the world. But it's also a hopeful tale as Rajiid shows what one person can do to change her world. This isn't for the faint of heart but it is an excellent read.
