Adora has raised her young daughter by herself, and had a lot of tragedy in her past from losing her other two in a kidnapping long ago. Now her daughter has found someone, and she’s staying with her dragon friend from long ago. But the dragon’s rider is what intrigues her most… she wants him but thinks that he will never get over the death of his wife and son many years ago. He’s a good man, but now they have a new visitor and she’s lonely… should she give up on him and go with the other man that attracts her?

Jared lost his wife and son long ago, and has vowed to never love that way again. When Adora comes into the household, he’s hard pressed to remember his vow. When he starts to realize that she may go to someone else, he thinks that it might be time to change his mind.

Darian is about to turn his back on all he knows to betray his king. He’s found out the hard way that the man is insane, and he can’t stand back and watch him destroy the neighboring kingdom without doing something about it. It will cost him dearly, but he’s willing to pay it. When he meets Adora he realizes that it may all be worth it… but will she go with him? Or hang on to Jared who may never get over his loss?

I really enjoyed the story line in this book, there was a lot going on to get my attention and keep it. This story was about the relationship between the three and how they get to the point that they are all involved in it, but it didn’t make me think that they were forever lovers because there didn’t seem to be a lot of sparks flying between them to me. That being said, it was a good story with a lot of action; I loved Darian’s character and thought he had potential for more of a story than he got. If you like action and adventure in your story with a little bit of spice thrown in, you should give Border Lair a try, it’s worth it!
