In Northern Minnesota in 1893, John Thompson (known to all as Big John) returned home from a spring drive to his ranch. He had an assistant, an elderly man named Howard whom he expected to be at home. He had hired a man to cook for the logging camp, a Daniel (le) Jones. She was working for money to get to California and her fiancé, Jamie. She had not seen Jaime in ten years, but she intended to move the next yearafter working and getting enough money for the trip.

When Big John walked into his yard, and then his home, he was shocked to see a bunch of children playing. As he walked in, he heard a loud scream so he ran up the stairs to the source of the noise. When he saw a very small woman delivering a baby to a woman lying on his bed, he fainted. What a mess! The father of the baby and Howard had to remove him from the floor and try to revive him. Then, Dani had to explain not only the scene he witnessed, but the fact that she had been working for him for the past three months.

Ms. Lauri Robinson has written a gripping story about true love and what could happen to cause problems. Her main characters were dynamic and convincing and were perfectly suited to each other. The supporting cast was a myriad of peoplefrom the family of Dani to the hands who worked for Big John to the townspeople and a big masculine nun. The turmoil when Dani decided to find Big John a wife was not easily sorted out. Dani was known for making lists and this was no exception. How Big John reacted when he realized what she was doing was comical but significant.

Through a compelling turn of events to the unbelievable ending, this author has written a great book which is bound to be a big hit. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants a stirring storyline. It’s a great book I was honored to read.
