| Catan feels like he is frightened of most things since he was captured and brutalized. He wants to be a whole person, so that he can go after the one thing he wants… Asad. He is just starting to get his confidence back enough to wonder if Asad is really attracted to him, when he is captured again.
Asad has wanted Catan for a long time, and is willing to wait for him as long as it takes for him to recover from his ordeal. Just when they both start to feel that they are getting somewhere, Catan is captured again. After being captured a second time, will Catan ever be able to recover enough to be what Asad needs? The story was filled with action and the two main characters had a lot of suppressed feelings for each other. I can see how Catan would be scarred for life after what he went through, and Asad was a pretty big and tough guy for someone as fearful as Catan. I was surprised that Catan could even think that way after what he’d been through, and when he was re-captured his reaction wasn’t quite what I expected. I liked how the relationship evolved and they had to work through their differences, it made for an engaging story that captured my interest right from the start. I didn’t think that the feelings between Catan and Asad were very powerful though, so it lost a little for me in the translation. Overall it was a good book that will keep you turning the pages.
