Julia Campbell worked as the assistant District Attorney. After five years separation, she and Cade Taylor were to be reunited—although they were not aware of it until the first day of court. When Julia and Cade came face-to-face, the shock was evident even to the press. Her boss wanted her to try this case. Cade was the defense attorney and neither wanted to admit to their prior relationship. Paige, Julia’s best friend, had kept her secret for five years and hers was the place Julia took her daughter, Laura, while she attended the trial being held in her hometown.

Cade was defending the wife of an important public servant. She had been arrested several times for drunk driving but this time she had killed someone. Julia’s parents were killed the same way years before. It was hard for her not to take the case personally. Cade had serious doubts about the validity of defending this woman. That was his main concern until he met his daughter, four-year-old Laura....

Ms. Chrystal Kincaid did a good job of weaving the plot of this story throughout the years her characters were separated. The couple was strong and independent. Their actions were so believable that I wanted to help them find their happily ever after. That doesn’t mean the story drug—far from it.

There were surprises intertwined with this love story. The dangers were obvious and made the book more than a routine romance. The sensuality was dynamic and sizzled. The book was highly emotional from the viewpoint of father/child connection. It was truly poignant. I thought Ms. Kincaid expressed the struggles of a detached family unit which showed concerns and sorrow on the part of the parents of that little girl.

Laura was so young—not yet five years old—but was articulate and smart and comical. She was also very straightforward. I believe readers will immediately fall in love with her. I recommend this book as a good read and commend Ms. Kincaid for her work
