Alexandra O'Shay is headed west to look for her father. She has her independence, her freedom and a small savings. As she rides the train west, Alex notices a mysterious man in back and a train robbery makes them an unlikely team. Marshal James Black is honest and quick with a gun. When the train reaches its destination, the two find themselves reaching a town in trouble from bandits and a ruthless homesteader. As Alex settles in to her new home, she finds herself thankful for the help the Marshal provides. Jim has his hands full setting the town to rights and sorting through his feelings for Ms. O'Shay. Only time will tell if the two can make more than a friendship work.

Holy smoking barrels, what a great read! Marshal Black is everything you could imagine in a man: smart, sexy, honest, and just a little bit ornery. He is the perfect foil for the sweet, intriguing, and beautiful Alex. There are so many wonderful things about this book. The writing is smooth and paints a vivid picture of the west and the troubles faced by the brave people that started lives out there. The author intertwines mystery, romance, and treachery into a page turning read. The West blazes to life with each character in the book. The bad guys are terribly bad and the good guys are extraordinary. You can picture this up on the big screen as an old fashioned western; with gunslingers, outlaws, stolen kisses and a high drama trial, there is absolutely nothing missing. As the story draws to a close you will find yourself wishing for more and looking for the next story from Ms. Starmer.
