| Penelope Makepiece travelled to Swithland House with her chaperone, Aunt Cecilia Makepiece and her son Toby. It was assumed that, since her father had no heir and Toby would succeed him, Penelope and Toby would wed. Nothing would satisfy Aunt Cecilia more. They attended a house party at the home of her best friend, Antonia, and her brother, Severus, Earl of Swithland. She was almost blind but was not allowed to wear her spectacles in public. Neither could she appear smart. That was definitely a turn-off for an unmarried woman, even one over the normal marriage age.
Severus was looking for a wife. During a prior drunken state, he stated that he would hold a house party and choose a wife. All the women, as well as their chaperones, vied for invitations. He invited friends to round out the numbers but everyone was aware this particular party was to find Severus a bride. Early in the gathering it was obvious that he had made a terrible mistake. Alluring Secrets is the second book in Ms. Lynne Connolly’s Secrets Trilogy. It is a fabulous book. This book is a full-sized novel which gave her a chance to fully develop her characters and allow the readers to become engrossed in their personalities. I’ll admit that I read this book straight through in one day. That does not mean that it was not a comprehensive book; it was. I just kept reading because I couldn’t find the right place to stop. Each character, both primary and secondary, became well known to us. There were surprises and detailed actions taken. The sensuality of this book was addictive and, while the sex was not too graphic, it was enthralling and intense. There were a myriad of characters involved in this storyline but it did not minimize the importance of any others. There were several secondary stories ongoing which enhanced the plot of the book. I loved this book and have looked for it since the first came out. I highly recommend it to everyone and anxiously await the final book in the trilogy.
