| Sharon Colson is a singer/bartender down on her luck.
She was out of money and had been locked out of her
room. She spent the night before sleeping in the park
when the Sheriff recommended that she apply for a job
at the All Night Inn. It is a tavern catering to
humans and paranormals. The owner, Jonathan, is a
vampire or nightwalker. He agrees to hire her if she
accepts his mark. She is desperate and agrees, but
refuses a full mind link with her due to an incident
in her past. She is a very strong untrained psychic
and was both physically and mentally raped when she
was a teenager. Jonathan knows nothing of this and
hopes for more trust from her in the future. He is
unwilling to let her get too close, however, due to
the death of his last female companion, Angela.
Sharon and Jonathan fall in love, but Jonathan is
unable to trust her enough to form a closer
relationship, which causes problems. Vampire politics
also are about to cause them more problems than they
realize.
This is an outstanding paranormal novel. The author builds a very realistic alternate reality with vivid well defined characters. The plot flows smoothly, and I really resented life interrupting my reading, because the story line was so engrossing. The two main characters were full of emotional baggage which caused them problems. The peripheral characters and their lives were also described more than adequately. I really hope that this is the beginning of a series, because I am not really ready to let these characters go.
