| Elvi and her friend Mabel took a trip to Mexico at the town’s urging. One bus wreck later, Elvi is now a vampire without knowing how to be one. Mabel gets her back home and the townspeople rally around her, making sure her life is as comfortable as possible. Elvi learns what she can from watching Dracula and has resigned herself to missing all the creature comforts, like a big soft comfortable bed, chocolate and cheesecake, and sunlight. She sleeps in a coffin and drinks blood the townspeople are kind enough to donate to the blood bank for her. Her friends worry about her not having anybody to stay with her after they grow old and pass away, so they advertise in the personals for her. The ad draws several vampires to her town, including Victor Argeneau.
Victor is an enforcer for the council who oversees all things vampire, including enforcing immortal laws. It seems announcing your vampirism is against the laws. Yet once Victor meets Elvi, he realizes she could be his life mate. Elvi finds herself the victim of many accidents suddenly and Victor has to put his courting aside so he can keep her safe. Not easy to do when vampires meet their life mates. This is my first Lynsay Sands book but it certainly will not be the last. The Accidental Vampire made me laugh and kept me entertained the whole day! It’s a lighter paranormal romance than the usual fare and that's a pleasant change. Elvi is such a likable character with her acceptance of what her future holds. When the misconceptions are cleared up, she is just like a child in a candy store – or grocery store or furniture store as it were. There have obviously been other books in this series but having only read this one I didn’t feel like I missed out. This book can stand alone but I enjoyed it so much I plan to read the backlist. The author packs a lot into this book with the pace moving very rapidly so that the reader doesn’t realize the story takes place in less than a week. The dialogue was snappy between all the characters and kept a smile on my face. Oh to have the body and heart of a twenty-five year old with the mind of a sixty two year-old! That’s Elvi’s character and you are going to love reading her story!
