| Marina is a card counter; a gambler who plays with her head, not
relying solely on luck as many might. She works hard and plays even
harder. But her social life is somewhat deficient. She swears that she
doesn't need what everyone else has--a husband, a boyfriend, a
family--and then she meets Miquel, a card dealer, and Marina
reassesses her desires in life.
I really learned a wealth of information on the various games played at casinos while reading 24/7. Reading about the ups and downs of the players' emotional involvement as they win and lose major amounts of money made the lure of quick riches understandable without glossing over the fact that one can lose everything in seconds without self control.
