About Kim Rees

As Kim Rees I write sensual contemporary romances, with hot alpha males and quietly strong heroines. Well, so far. I'm new to writing contemporaries and I'm still exploring. But angst is an absolute must *grin* And as Kim Knox I write fantasy and sf with a twist of romance. I love to play with myth and the past... but also take my characters into the far future. The heroine is more the focus in these stories... thought the hero iss, of course, effortlessly sexy.

An Interview with Kim Rees
By Holly Hewson, Marketing Director for The Romance Studio

HH: Kim, welcome to TRS! Please tell us about your featured book, Past Lies.

KR: Thanks for having me!

What do you get if you force two people to live in each other's pockets, people who've been actively avoiding each other for six years? Well, as the tagline says:

Warning, this title contains the following: more sexual tension than you can shake a stick at...

It's a story of lies, manipulation and two people who have to find a way to overcome their past to realise the love they've denied for too long. Oh and Zachary Quinn, the hero, is just yum, lol

HH: Your heroine is thrown into what seems an unbearable situation. But all isn't what it seems. Where did you get the idea for this suspense filled tale?

KR: It started out with the idea of locking two characters who had serious history in a room together, give them something the other wanted and wait to see what happened. The rest of the story spiralled out from there.

HH: What do you like best about Zach?

KR: I love cool, effortlessly sexy men that make you melt and drive you insane at the same time. And that's what I love about Zach, *grin *

HH: What are you working on now? What else do you have in store for readers this year?

KR: I seem to work best if I have a few stories on the go at the same time so I'm working on two contemporaries and an sf romance at the minute. It's hard for me to explain a story I'm in the middle of writing, so you'll have to wait and see...though sneak peeks do appear onn my blog from time to time... =)

And what's coming out this year? So far, I have a straight fantasy story in an anthology with Wild Child Publishing, The Honourable Lady. The anthology, called Star Stepping, has a tentative release date of 15 April. Later in the year, 2 September, I have a fantasy romance out with Samhain Publishing, Weaving Words.

HH: How did you get your start as a writer?

KR: I'm one of those writers who always scribbled from a young age. I think I started when I was about ten. It'd probably be considered a form of fanfic now as I wrote missing scenes or changed the endings of favourite books and television programmes. I've stuffed all my scribblings into box files in my back bedroom, never to see the light of day again.

HH: How have things changed for you since then?

KR: I didn't get 'serious' about writing until I moved back home to Liverpool . I had a young son to look after and I was going slightly stir crazy, lol. I'd always written science fiction and fantasy, though with no romance…so I decided to take a completely different taack and write contemporary romance. I immersed myself in the genre and Buying Mackenzie's Baby was born. Its success at Samhain Publishing motivated me to finish Past Lies. Realising that I could write romance turned me back to writing science fiction and fantasy with a romantic twist. And that's been fun too!

HH: What accomplishment in your writing career, to this point, are you most proud of?

KR: I don't know whether it can be considered an accomplishment, but I had a *squeee* moment when I ran across the road to the library and asked if they'd take my books. Both librarians and a woman waiting to take her books out, were so excited to have them and I was on a high for the rest of the day, lol

HH: What goals have you set for yourself in your career?

KR: My main goal is to write every day and to write the best story I can. And can I admit I'd love to write for Brava? I was beyond happy when Dark Host finalled in the 2007 Brava Novella Contest.

HH: Any vacation plans this year?

KR: Probably a short break in Wales and maybe Northumberland. My two monsters have to have their fix of castles. Apparently, it's not a proper holiday without them, lol

We can't make plans too far in advance this year as my right kidney decided it didn't love me anymore. I'm waiting for a date for the operation to remove it. I must admit, I've got more writing done since November—when I foundd out that my kidney wasn't working—than I had in the prrevious ten months, lol. I think focusing on wickedly attractive men kept me sane. =)

HH: Thank you!
