An Interview with Fabian Black
By Holly Hewson for The Romance Studio
HH: Fabian, thank you so much for talking with us at TRS! Your featured book is Spanking Dee-Dee and it’s not your average M/M romance. Where did you get the idea for this unique story?
FB: Hi, Holly, it’s nice to be here.
The idea for ‘Spanking Dee-Dee’ has been swimming around my head for a long time. My area of interest is in power exchange practices so I guess the story is naturally rooted in that interest. I’m always seeking to explore and understand my kink, for want of a better word, and writing is one of the ways I do so. Why are some people wired with an interest in spanking, domination and submission? Why are some people dominants and others submissive, these are some of the things I like to explore through my characters.
HH: What do you like best about Simon and why will readers be pulling for him?
FB: I like Simon because he’s real. He isn’t a perfect man. He has flaws, as we all do. For example, he’s a bit blind to the obvious at times, but he’s kind, good natured and caring, and sexy with it. I think readers will be hoping for him to see what’s under his nose and take action on it.
HH: What do you like best about Dee-Dee and what do you think readers will think of him?
FB: Dee-Dee is a rather unworldly character in many ways, but he also has a wise edge to him. I think readers might feel rather protective of him, as Simon does. :) They’ll hope things work out for him. He sees the world in a different way to most people. He’s a mix of naivety and wisdom. He has an earthy side too and a sense of humour, which I like.
HH: What do you like best about their relationship and how does it differ from those in your other works?
FB: I like the empathy between them. There’s a connection right from the moment they meet, in fact before Simon even speaks to Dee-Dee. They develop a bond of friendship very early on. How does it differ from other relationships in my works? The D/s aspect is much more subtle. Despite the title it isn’t a typical spanking story at all. :)
HH: What do you like best about this particular story?
FB: I think it’s a beautiful and tender story about two men and their experiences and aspirations. It’s also a universal story about love and relationships, which I think readers of any persuasion will be able to relate to on many levels.
HH: What else do you have in store for lucky readers?
FB: I have lots of work in the pipeline. There’s plenty of plot bunnies hopping around waiting to be caught. :)
HH: What do you enjoy most about being an author?
FB: The ‘divine creator’ aspect! I love giving life to characters, imagining their lives and making them grow so other people can imagine them too.
HH: What’s your writing schedule like?
FB: I write best on a morning and so like to be up early and at my computer by eight-thirty. I tend to write until noon and then take a break. I then review what I’ve written and do some edits and re-writes.
HH: Where can readers find you online?
FB: Here at TRS of course. My books can also be found on various ebook retail sites such as All Romance ebooks, Rainbow ebooks and Amazon Kindle. There’s lots of information about my works, and me, on my website and readers will also find free reads and regular contests: http://www.fabianblackromance.com
Thanks so much for giving me the opportunity to talk about my latest book ‘Spanking Dee-Dee’ here at TRS.
HH: Thank you so much!
