Reviews for Deirdre O'Dare
"Doggone Love is an amazing book by Ms. O'Dare. Damon … is a fascinating character, a man who always thought tthat he was only sexually interested in women until he meets Eric. Eric has had sex with men and women, but he always knew that if he settled down, he would be with a man The sexual encounters are amazingly erotic and beautiful. I was squirming in my chair as I read and reread the sex scenes. There were some interesting twists in the plot, it was seamless and beautiful. This is the first story that I have read by Ms. O'Dare. I can't wait for another!" - Five stars, Marcy Arbitman for Just Erotic Romance Reviews
"In Rescued By Love, Mandy, Garrett's sweet golden retriever, almost steals the show. She's an amazing dog and the passages in which O'Dare describes their search-and-rescue missions are fascinating. Not only does Mandy use her highly-sensitive nose to find victims but she also plays a key role in the healing process. I enjoyed having an insider's perspective into how search-and-rescue teams operate. In such a short story, there's not a lot of room for complicated plot arcs or deep character development, but O'Dare does a fantastic job giving us just the right amount of detail and back story to keep the story moving along. Deirdre O'Dare is a fine writer who has a gift for storytelling that rings true to real life. Dan and Garrett don't have a perfect happy-ever-after because they each have a lot of work left in the healing process, but they're on their way." - Reviewed by Marame for Rainbow Reviews
"The Maltese Terror. Deirdre O'Dare has written a fun, lighthearted story. I loved Nick and Caleb and enjoyed going along with them as they struggled to form a relationship, but Cheyenne and Cedric made this story. They were such well-written characters. I loved the two playful dogs. They were so realistic and seemed so alive, I can just see the antics the two of them pulled. I would recommend this one to anyone who loves a good fun romance, with a little man love." - Reviewed by Sandra for The Romance Studio, 4 hearts

Read an excerpt from Burrito Belle's Gringo GuyDeirde O'Dare Deirdre O'Dare, who also writes milder (roughly PG-13 rated) romance as Gwynn Morgan, has loved reading and writing since early childhood. Writing came naturally to Deirdre/Gwynn who scribed her first simple verse at age eight. An avid reader, she devoured hundreds of books while growing up and later as an adult. Somewhere along the way she found romance and then romance with more explicit and detailed love scenes adn knew what she wanted to write. In the last decade after leaving her "day job" as a civilian employee of the U. S. Army, she finally settled into romantic fiction writing as a second career. Deirdre has a growing number of shorts and novellas, all published by Amber Quill. Deirdre admits her favorite heroes are cops, cowboys and Celts.

More stories are coming and a second anthology should make it out in 2010. One tale is already released (Burrito Belle) and Schnickelfritz in Love will be coming late this year or early next. Others are currently on the drawing board and in the idea file!
An Interview with Deirdre O'Dare
By Holly Hewson for The Romance Studio
HH: Deirdre, thank you for talking with us at TRS (The Rainbow Studio). Please tell us about your featured book, Canine CupidsDO: Canine Cupids is a collection of the first four of my men and dog stories that began some time ago with Doggone Love. Doggone Love grew out of a sad visit to the vet's to have my late husband's lovely old Lab-Setter Mix Sadie sent across the Rainbow Bridge to join him and her canine buddy Butch. There was a new doctor at my clinic who was very sweet and caring and inspired Eric Vann in that first story! The others grew from my love for dogs and the great popularity of that first story!
HH: This anthology is filled with four sizzling man love stories. Where did you get the idea for these stories that feature very special canine friends with important roles to play? DO: I am really a dog person as I am sure is pretty clear from these tales. I wasn't sure at first if I could actually write man love stories, My first was a futuristic (Treading Dangerous Ground) that just popped into my head and was so demanding I wrote several pages in a small tablet by hand over breakfast one day! Then came Doggone Love. After Doggone Love, a friend challenged me to put a small dog into a story. I have two dear friends who have Maltese and The Maltese Terror was born. I felt like many of my characters in these stories needed a nudge to acknowledge their sudden attraction to another man since mostly one or both of them had not yet really accepted that he was gay. The dogs were the perfect way to get things moving. Saved By Sam is a spin-off from Armed and Amourous (a m/f tale with a menage scene) when some readers wanted Roy to have his own story. And I was fascinated by the wonderful SAR dogs after 9/11. I knew I needed to feature one in a tale and Rescued By Love came about. There are more in the works! I really enjoy these stories and it seems my readers do too!So look for Canine Cupids Vol II in a few more months.
HH: Which of these stories is your favorite and why? DO: Hmm, that is a hard one. Like asking a mom which kid she loves most! I guess I would have to go with Doggone Love since it was the first and kicked this all off! But I do love them all, honestly!
HH: Which characters are your favorites? DO: I think I like Garrett and Dan in Rescued By Love the very best. They both have had terrible pain and sadness in their lives yet are really trying to keep going and finding each other makes all the difference in the world--with some help from Garrett's great dog Mandy!
HH: What can you tell us about Burrito Belle's Gringo Guy? DO: I lived in New Mexico for several months and knew I had to set some stories there. Albuquerque is a wonderful city and I also am fascinated by El Paso. The border troubles are in the news a lot and I wanted to do a character who had first hand knowledge of them. Juan introduced himself to me. He had picked up Burrito Belle on his flight from the drug cartel and made her his mascot. They needed a strong protector and Troy stepped up to the plate! This is their story and I suspect there will be another installment for the bad guys to get what is coming to them since that was not totally resolved in this first one.
HH: What can you tell us about Schnickelfritz in Love? DO: A friend has a mini-schnauzer who is a total character. I knew there would have to be a story for his alter-ego. Then I visualized an unlikely pair of canines (Like Cedric and Cheyenne in The Maltese Terror) who bring an unlikely match of guys into the perfect relationship. This is my current WIP and I hope to get it complete and turned in so it can be released in December or January! The other dog is a rescued greyhound named Athena. Their masters Jake and Boz come from totally different backgrounds and meet at the dog park in a humorous scene but their careers soon have them working together as well. Hint--Boz is a detective and Jake an electrician working on a new medical center in Las Cruces, NM. Yep another New Mexico story!
HH: What else do you have in store for lucky readers? DO: I'm settled in a new home for awhile--in Colorado--and with the long cold winter which I am not used to settling in, I expect to get a lot of writing done. In progress are Eres Tu--Times Two in which Brandy from Doggone Love gets her own tale with a couple of twins who are very naive! Then a story about a young widow who is an artist and the two handymen who come to work on her new rented home, working title Paint a New Scene, and a full novel length paranormal about another artist and the spirit of a man from Lemuria who woos and wins her for his own reasons--very explicit and steamy! Working title is He (anyone recall H Rider Haggard's She?) But this one will have a happy ending, guaranteed. That is the only thing I will write!
HH: What is your favorite thing about being a writer? DO: Wow, I don't know. Maybe it is letting all these people out of my head to come to life on the screen and pages as they tell me their stories so I can share them with the world. The most gratifying is having readers contact me and let me know how much one of my stories meant to them or why it moved, helped or pleased them!
HH: What would we find in your TBR (to be read) stack? DO: I read a lot of non-fiction on paranormal and spritiual topics especially and have a big pile of them on or near my bed where I do a lot of my reading. Then of course romance and mixed genres by some of my fave authors such as Eileen Wilks, Sue Ellen Welfonder, Elizabeth Sinclair, and many of my fellow Amber Quill and Awe-Struck writers--I can't mention them all so won't even try!! I judge in the EPIC contest each year and always find a few new authors to follow that I have not read before which is neat! Now and then I love a good juicy historical novel (my all time fave is the late Anya Seton) and I honestly wept when I heard Tony Hillerman had passed away because now there are no more of his wonderful Native American mysteries but Margaret Coel is filling part of that gap although I understand she has some new characters now that are not part of her "Vickie and Father John" series which I really have enjoyed. I also read some biography and western Americana as well. I am a very eclectic reader so no telling what I will pick up next!
HH: Any special plans for the holidays this year? DO: Probably not. I might get down to Arizona to see my two sons but winter is not a good time to drive and it is not a good place to fly to sooooo... I expect I will just be hibernating in my new home--I am living with my brother who is also one of my best buddies so we will have a good time I am sure. We will share cooking a couple of our special non-traditonal dinners for Thanksgiving and Christmas that mix southwestern and other cuisine! No turkey as neither of us like it! But very likely some tamales and good warming soup like Menudo or Abondigas and then sweet potatoes and Waldorf salad and probably apple pie with ice cream! Maybe ham or a beef roast for the main course and so on. A tree is iffy but I know I will decorate some; I cannot help myself!
Thanks Holly, and TRS for having me! It has been great fun!
HH: Thank you!
