Tristram La Roche

A spin of the wheel can change everything...

Mike had it all. A business in the south of France, money, and a handsome boyfriend. But when the world’s economies nose-dived, he lost the lot—including Kurt. With nothing left, he finds himself back home in the north of England, living in a broken-down rented flat, alone.

When the boiler breaks down, the repairman turns out to be an old acquaintance—one who was never Mike’s social equal. Now Pete’s the one with money and security, his own thriving company and a collection of classic cars. Pete’s joie de vivre is impossible to resist, but how can Mike face being a kept man?

Reviews of Fixed

"Fixed is a romantic story with a bit of an edge to it, exploring the difference between sex and love, and how intricately connected the mind and the heart are when separating the physical needs from the emotional.

Mike’s conflicts were genuine, his doubts and missteps believable on the journey that would ultimately help him to realize that true love is unconditional, not based upon how much you can contribute to the partnership, but how much of yourself you’re willing to invest in it." Top2Bottom Reviews

"I would recommend this story for fans of romance where you don't have to worry about any surprises, or think too hard about the plot. It is sweet and funny, with a simplistic setting." ManOhMan Reviews

"I loved this novella. It's a beautifully orchestrated combination of love story, triumph over adversity and voyage of discovery. Yes, there are some steamy M/M sex scenes and this author knows how to write these graphically and with real feeling." Catherine Cavendish

About Tristram La Roche

Tristram La Roche was born in London and spent much of his childhood in Europe. His career has included tourism and yacht charter, as well as a brief period working as a freelance journalist. His interests include travel, art, theatre, cinema, books, cars and current affairs, and he is passionate about the rights of the GLBT community.

Always an avid reader, Tristram turned his hand to writing relatively recently. In less than a year he had four novellas published. As someone who grew up in less liberal times, he wants to help break down the barriers that still exist for GLBT citizens. His vehicle, surprise surprise, is his fiction. He writes MM - or gay fiction - with a bit of an edge, and likes to touch on a few sore points.

Tristram lives between London and the North of England with his civil partner. He is always happy to hear from his readers.

An Interview with Tristram La Roche
By Holly Hewson for The Romance Studio

HH: hank you for talking with us at TRS. Your featured book is Fixed. Where did you get the idea for this emotionally-engaging story of men who've lived very different lives?

Tris: I know a few people who've had a rough time these last few years and I wanted to tell that story. It's easy to forget some people lost everything thanks to the incompetence of the financial sector and politicians. It seemed apt to add the up side with a chance meeting.

HH: What do you like best about Mike and why do you think readers will relate to him?

Tris: He's about as depressed as you can get, but he's still hanging on. He hasn't given up despite what's happened. He still has his pride and that could get in the way of things! He just needs a bit of luck.

HH: What do you like best about Pete and why will readers love him?

Tris: He's ready to grab life by the throat and live it, and he knows what he wants. He's had his head down working and making money but his life has been meaningless. And he has an impressive physical asset!

HH: What makes this story different from your others?

Tris: This is deeply rooted in a contemporary setting, about mature characters grabbing their second time around from the remains of the first. It has more of a socio-political message than my other stories.

HH: What makes you story stand out amongst fierce competition?

Tris: I'm always eager to tell it like it is from the gay man's perspective. so while there are lots of what I call slushy MM romances about mine are more gritty and true to life. That's my opinion, anyway!

HH: What else do you have in store for lucky readers?

Tris: I have a hot and scary short under way for Halloween. The maybe an other novella before the end of the year. I am still toying with the idea of a MM SciFi.

HH: How long have you been a writer and what keeps you writing?

Tris: I started just over a year ago and I keep going because I can't do anything else!

HH: What goals have you set for yourself at this point in your career?

Tris: To be able to live from my writing when I'm really too old to do anything else.

HH: What do you enjoy reading?

Tris: Thrillers, horror, historicals, lots of non-fiction.

HH: What are you most looking forward to before the year's end?

Tris: A little bit of peace. That period between Xmas and New Year is one of the few times when nobody expects you to be around.

HH: Thank you!
