Reviews for A Dangerous Dream

"This romantic suspense delivers on both on the suspense and the romance. In a rare twist this tale presents the male point of view in an insightful manner. This author tells of both persons feelings without making the male pov sappy. This is the way it really is. An insider’s view of the horse world, shows the true to fact research. Mary Paine has created a mystery and love story in a new and intriguing manner. This is an author to watch. I know I will be on the lookout for her books. On the lipstick scale this rates 5 smacks." - A. Dee Carey, www.foxladycarey.com, Fantasy novelist

An Interview with Mary Paine
By Holly Hewson, Marketing Director for The Romance Studio

HH: Mary, welcome to The Romance Studio! Please tell us about your featured book, A Dangerous Dream.

MP: A Dangerous Dream is an equestrian novel set in the world of Grand Prix show jumping. My heroine, Melissa, is determined to succeed in her job as assistant manager at a premier Connecticut equestrian facility. With the romantic interest of a handsome man and her career on the fast track, her dreams seem about to come true until she enters a stall one morning to find the farm manager unconscious and gravely injured. Upon awakening, he has no recollection of what happened, launching a police investigation that brings long-kept secrets of the farm's history to the surface.

Throughout this upheaval Melissa finds herself drawing closer to David, one of the trainers at the barn who has a reputation for avoiding relationships like the plague. But fate can't be denied and Melissa and David deal with their intense desire for each other as they are plunged into the turmoil threatening the farm to which they've both tied their futures. When David is placed under suspicion by the police and Melissa herself is attacked, they must weave their way through intrigue and danger to protect themselves and their dreams.

HH: Your heroine is living out her dream but a murder attempt clouds everything, including a possible romance. Where did you get the idea for this intriguing story?

MP: I have always loved both horses and romance novels. I lived in Connecticut most of my life in an area with many equestrian facilities, including a few where Grand Prix show riders are based. I absorbed the wonderful atmosphere of show jumping even while I competed in equitation and hunter divisions where the fences are decidedly lower than jumpers!

It was fantastic to bring a world I love so much to life in the pages of my book. I've seen so many people work so hard to succeed in the horse world; I wanted to create a story which shows the strength, determination, and sheer love of horses these very talented individuals possess. What better way to illustrate this than to have my characters defend all they love against a potential murderer?

HH: What do you like best about David?

MP: What I admire most about David is his ability to love. His dedication to the sport and the horses comes through in his actions. His feelings for Melissa and his willingness to sacrifice for her touched my heart all through writing A Dangerous Dream.

HH: What did you enjoy most about writing this story?

MP: Writing about horses is always a joy for me, but I also loved the challenge of winding mystery through the pages in ways that allow the story to slowly unfold all the way to the surprise ending.

HH: What are you working on now?

MP: My second novel, Legacy, is also set in the horse world. In fact, my heroine is a horse trainer who owns her own facility in Northern Virginia. However, I'm very excited to have added paranormal elements to this story. Working with horses has always had its own brand of magic for me, but Gemma, my heroine, is a witch. In my story she balances her love for her horses and riders with a legacy which commands her involvement in an international coven's attempts to protect a grimoire, or spellbook of great value. Along the way she falls in love with a man who is determined to help her, although for his protection she feels she must battle alone against an evil wizard determined to obtain the grimoire.

HH: What do you have in store for readers in 2008?

MP: A Dangerous Dream, which will be released in January, 2008 is my only confirmed publication date, I'm working to complete Legacy as fast as I can. After Legacy, I'm itching to continue the story of Deer Creek Farm that's started in A Dangerous Dream.

HH: How did you get your start as a writer?

MP: I started my career as an epidemiologist doing clinical trials research, but my boss noticed I was a good medical writer and nurtured that talent, which enabled me to develop a career in medical publishing and informatics. I was Vice President of Editorial Affairs for a medical communications company until I retired to start my family. However, fate lent a hand and I was placed on bed rest for my second pregnancy. With all that time on my hands, I decided to give writing fiction a try as I had wanted to do for years. I am very happy that first novel, A Dangerous Dream, was accepted for publication!

HH: How have things changed for you since then?

MP: The Internet has changed writing enormously for me. There are so many research options available online that I use both for medical writing and in researching novels. I am also very intrigued by all the possibilities electronic publishing represents for both fiction and nonfiction.

HH: What keeps you writing your stories every day?

MP: I love the wonderful craziness of my household with three small children, but it's very nice for Mommy to have the balance of disappearing into the worlds I create in my novels.

HH: What would you like for readers to know about you?

MP: I am having such a wonderful time writing fiction. I hope readers will enjoy the stories I create. I would love to hear from you! Please feel free to contact me through my web site at www.marypaine.com.

Happy Reading!

HH: Thank you!
