Sky thinks he can never trust Vilicia, but as she helps him through crisis after crisis, his heart starts to believe what his body has been telling him since he first saw her. She's one hell of a woman.
But at the first test of Sky's new love and trust, he fails Vilicia. The resulting horrific events will either destroy their love or meld it into something stronger than the mountains.
Reviews for The Lesser Evil
"Susan Kelley has done it again. The Lesser Evil does not disappoint. It is absolutely wonderful! The love between these two characters is what we are all looking for in our own lives. The world Susan Kelley creates is so believable you find you self wishing you could be there. This story has such a wonderful mix, of love, suspense, betrayal, understanding, and forgiveness. This story really shows what true love is all about. I can not wait to read her next book in this series." - 5 Cups, LeAnne, Coffee Time Romance
"THE LESSER EVIL is a strong addition to Ms. Kelley's great futuristic series. The chemistry between Vilicia and Sky is explosive, and even though Sky doesn't trust Vilicia, he can't stay away from her. Even though Vilicia is a strong, capable woman, she is innocent in the ways of men and women. This innocence leads to some humorous situations. Sky and Vilicia are both stubborn and hot-headed. While Sky makes a great hero, as evidenced by his care for his family and countrymen, he is quick to jump to conclusions. However, by the end, Sky seems to have learned from his mistakes and grown into an even better hero. All in all, THE LESSER EVIL is a solid addition to a wonderful.futuristic series. I anticipate the next book with glee." - 4 1/2 Moons, Marlene Breakfield

An Interview with Susan Kelley
By Holly Hewson, Marketing Director for The Romance StudioHH: Susan, welcome back to TRS! Please tell us about your featured book, The Lesser Evil. SK: The Lesser Evil is the second book in a series introduced in The Greater Good. Set on a future Earth after an asteriod strike has stripped civilization of technology and even changed the physical features of the world. Every day is a struggle to survive. For love to grow amidst such an environment takes two special people. Sky Turan and Captain Vilicia of Solonia are such a couple though it takes them a while to figure that out.
HH: How does this story continue your very popular series at New Concepts Publishing? SK: Sky Turan was introduced in The Greater Good as Juston Steele's best friend. Vilicia is captain of the guard in Solonia. She and Sky strike sparks off each other every time they meet. Like many of her people, she hopes to someday have a child and a real family. Sky still blames her for her part in what he sees as the kidnaping of his friend. You'll get to see Juston and Katerina again in this book, but Sky and Vilicia are going to steal your hearts.
HH: What can you tell us about the third story? SK: Well, first I have to wait for my publisher to accept it, but it's done and ready for my readers. In The Lesser Evil you will meet Claudia Turan, Sky's sister. She's one tough, efficient warrior and is selected to lead a small group of explorers in search of a lost city. They hope to find the ruins of a great university where they can rediscover the means to such things as electricity and other advances lost years ago. They don't expect to meet people, but Claudia is going to bump into someone who will change not only her life but those of everyone in her home colony.
HH: What do you like most about Vilicia? SK: Vilicia is a strong woman, but underneath all her brashness is a warm loving heart. She's also lonely though not even she realizes it at first. She's also willing to go after what she wants. In The Greater Good she demonstrates how she will do anything to protect her people, and in The Lesser Evil, her desire to help Juston Steele leads to a great misunderstanding between her and Sky.
HH: What's your writing schedule like? SK: I'd like to be able to write during the day, but the dang day job gets in the way. I usually write late at night when I should be sleeping. Sometimes I'll do editing on my lunch break at work or while watching my children play sports.
HH: How do you balance a writing career with the rest of your life?
SK: I manage to fit most of what I want to do into my day, though I should exercise more. And sleep more. And drink less coffee. When I reach one of my writing goals, I reward myself by reading a book off my TBR stack.
HH: WWhat does your family think of your writing? SK: They're all very supportive and proud. My sons in college tell their friends and professors every time I sell a book. My high school son and daughter are the same way.
HH: Do you have any hobbies or other activities you enjoy? SK: Of course, I love to read. I also jog, cross stitch and absolutely love crossword puzzles. I have a sister I buy the most difficult puzzle I can find for her for her birthday. She reciprocates. Neither one of us has ever been able to stump the other. We're very good.
HH: What do you enjoy reading? SK: I read most anything that's fiction. Romance of any genre is on my shelves as well as a huge collection of fantasy. I also have a growing collection of mystery and suspense authors I read. I read the local newspaper end to end every day though I don't spend much time on magazines.
HH: Any vacation plans this year? SK: I'm hoping for some beach time, perhaps Myrtle Beach, and if not there, a mountain retreat where my husband and sons can golf and my daughter and I can horseback ride on some trails. We're in the early stages of planning.
HH: Thank you!
