An Interview with Cheryl Yeko
By Holly Hewson for The Romance Studio

HH: Cheryl, thank you for talking with us at TRS. Your featured story is Abducting Casey. Where did you get the idea for this incredible story?

CY: It’s kind of funny how this story came about. I was taking an online class on how to write a sensual novella and created a short story, roughly 20,000 words. When I sent the story to my publisher she loved it, and thought there was enough in the novel to take to a full story. So, I did. I really got into it and Abducting Casey is the longest length novel I’ve completed to date. It now sits at about 68,000 words. Fun, hey!

HH: What do you like about Casey and why will readers identify with her?

CY: I really like Casey. She is smart and sassy. Her heart rules her head, which sometimes gets her in trouble. But she knows what she wants, and is not afraid to go after it.

HH: What do you like about Matt and why will readers love him?

CY: I think Matt is totally hot. A tough guy, with a tender heart. He falls fast for Casey and will do anything to keep her safe, even if that means breaking a few rules.

HH: How did you bring the setting so vividly to life in this story and what sort of research did you do?

CY: Oh my, don’t bring up the research of this book to my husband. Ouch! He was kinda upset with me when I told him I’d spend a month searching bomb-making material on the internet...but he’ll get over it. He would shudder if he knew about everything I’ve googled! I’m flying off to Atlanta for the RWA Romance conference in a couple, we’ll see if I’m pulled out of line and stripped searched. 8-)

HH: What do you think readers will enjoy most about this romance?

CY: The interaction between Matt and Casey is fun. Casey is a bit headstrong and that doesn’t always make Matt’s job of protecting her easy. And there is more romance in this story than just Matt and Casey. I was on a roll!

HH: What else do you have in store for lucky readers?

CY: Shielding Her Heart is due out in November. This is the 3rd and last story in the Protecting Rose series. We have Protecting Rose/A Man To Trust/Shielding Her Heart.

My husband is looking forward to Shielding Her Heart because ‘I think’ I have my publisher convinced to put his classic ’65 Mustang on the cover. I’m like the best wife ever. J His car actually makes an appearance in both Protecting Rose and Shielding Her Heart, so it only seems appropriate for it to share the spotlight with the hero/heroine...don’t you think?

I’ve also completed a novella, Mountain Hero. I plan to self-pub it and I’m just waiting for the right time to release it. You can find a video trailer on my website for this novel, as well as my other novels. I actually created the video for Mountain Hero myself. This was my first try...I think it turned out pretty good. 8-)

HH: What would you most like to accomplish in your writing career this year?

CY: I wanted to have five books out by the end of the year, and I will meet that goal. Whew! Besides that, well, making it to the New York Times Bestseller List would be cool, too!

HH: What hobbies or interests do you have outside of your writing?

CY: I play piano...I say with a little guilt. Since I began writing in 2011, my piano is feeling very neglected. It’s just that I become so obsessed with my stories that I can’t seem to concentrate on anything else. One of my goals this year is to chill out and play more often.

HH: What's your favorite quote ever?

CY: My favorite movie ever was Dirty Dancing. So I’ll have to go with the line "I’m scared of walking out of this room and never feeling the rest of my whole life the way I feel when I’m with you.”

HH: What's your favorite social media and how do you use it to let readers know about your books?

CY: I’m really not very good with social media. But if I had to choose, it would be Facebook because it’s so easy. Although I get a bit frustrated with all the ads that are popping up on it recently. I also like LinkedIn. Blogging is fun, but it’s hard to find time to squeeze a lot of blogging in. {big sigh} but I try. 8-)

I firmly believe the best form of marketing is to write the next book. So I spend much more time writing than I do promoting. I figure, if I write a good book, they will come...LOL

HH: Thank you!
