Reviews for Cooking Up Love
5-Star Review from KDY Romance Reader (from Amazon)
"Cooking Up Love is a heartwarming contemporary romance story that leaves you wistful for a love identical to the one Justin and Shelbi share. The emotional and sensual tension between Shelbi and Justin strikes the perfect pitch.
Shelbi is a food critic from a renowned family of doctors that eats at the restaurant Justin owns and lets him know how she feels about the food via a food review in the local paper. Justin is a man that never got over the death of his mother and as a result is weary of doctors and what they represent in his life. They begin a guarded journey of trying to find love.
I felt my heartbeat pick up every time these two shared a scene. I like that Justin is a man's man that knows his only hope at finding everlasting love lies within the budding relationship with Shelbi. He gives her the confidence she needs while she gives him purpose.
The secondary characters in this story are strong and relevant. I love when big supportive families are included in a storyline. It is refreshing when brothers and sisters show trust, respect and a healthy dose of love for each other without conditions. I can't wait for Rasheed and Bria's story.
This story moves at a good pace and each chapter unlocks my heart a little more than the last. My favorite line "who is in control" ..have mercy, I love that scene. Cooking Up Love has all the critical ingredients that make this story sizzle. If you believe love can overcome all obstacles this is the story for you. Looking forward to the rest of the series."

An Interview with Candace Shaw
By Holly Hewson for The Romance Studio
Thank you for talking with us at TRS. Your featured book is Cooking Up Love. Where did you get the idea for this spicy romantic tale?
CS: Thank you having me. TRS is one my favorite websites. I got the idea for Cooking Up Love when I was visiting with my husband’s family in Memphis. We stayed downtown in his cousin’s loft, rode the trolley everywhere and ate good barbecue while listening to blues. I enjoyed my experience so much, that I wanted to incorporate it into a book. I wanted to do a series centered around a family of doctors and I haven’t read a book set in Memphis. But I also wanted to incorporate the heart of Memphis which is barbecue and blues. So I decided to make the hero a chef who owns a dinner and blues club.
HH: What do you like best about Shelbi and why do you think readers will relate to her?
CS: I love that Shelbi is intelligent and likes to think things through before making the best decision. She’s family-oriented and supportive of the hero. Even though she is from a very affluent family, she’s very down-to-earth. I think readers can relate to her because I didn’t make her a perfect heroine. She has issues she has to work out pertaining to her career choice.
HH: What do you like best about Justin and why will readers love him?
CS: I love Justin because he is a sexy man that can cook in the kitchen and the bedroom. Plus, he’s goal-oriented and ambitious. Readers will love him because he’s a chivalrous alpha male and an all-around good guy.
HH: What makes your characters and your story unique?
CS: My characters and story is unique because I didn’t follow the typical category romance novel guidelines all the time. I put my own spin and twist on things.
HH: What makes your story stand out amongst fierce competition?
CS: Cooking Up Love represents a true perspective on how real love can happen if one is willing to accept people for who they are without having to change and enjoy love as it grows.
HH: What else do you have in store for lucky readers?
CS: The next book in the Arrington Family Series, The Game of Seduction, is about Dr. Bria Arrington, an allergist who works for her family’s medical practice. Much to her father’s dismay, she prefers to incorporate alternative medicine with traditional for her patients. She wants to practice freely, but her father is against it, therefore Bria is contemplating accepting a position in Atlanta at a medical practice that will allow her to do both. On top of all that, she is falling for her best friend the handsome, arrogant, mocha-covered playboy, Rasheed Vincent. An ex professional basketball player, he is a self-proclaimed, life-long bachelor after his fiancée left him for another basketball player when Rasheed hurt his knee and opted to retire. This book definitely has some hot scenes and more of a sexy tone unlike Cooking Up Love, which was more of a fun and flirty tone, in my opinion. The Game of Seduction will be released in September 2012.
HH: How long have you been a writer and what keeps you writing?
CS: I’ve been writing seriously since 2009. What keeps me writing is all of the characters and ideas that are swirling around my head that are impatiently waiting for me to write their book. Plus, receiving all of the wonderful emails, tweets and Facebook messages from people who have read and enjoyed Cooking Up Love and are asking for the next book in the series. That alone keeps me motivated.
HH: What goals have you set for yourself at this point in your career?
CS: As of right now, my goal is to publish three novel-length books a year, maybe one novella as well, find more creative ways to promote and write books that people would want to read again.
HH: What do you enjoy reading?
CS: Besides contemporary romance, I also read women’s fiction, chick lit, paranormals and historicals.
HH: What are you most looking forward to before the year's end?
CS: Besides completing the third book in the Arrington Family series, I want to go to the beach with my husband, read a good book and sip a margarita!
HH: Thank you!
