An Interview with Shirley Martin
By Holly Hewson for The Romance Studio

HH: Shirley, thank you so much for talking with us at TRS. Your featured book is Forbidden Love. What can you tell us about this incredibly romantic tale?

SM: Holly, first, thanks for having me as guest. In reading a history of Pittsburgh, I came across the Homestead Steel Strike of 1892. I thought this would make a great romance, with the hero as a steelworker.

HH: What do you like best about Lisa and why will readers be cheering for her?

SM: Lisa is a spunky heroine, caught in an unhappy marriage. Her husband is a philanderer.

HH: What can you tell us about Owen and why will readers love him?

SM: Owen is a gutsy steelworker, one of the union leaders. He falls deeply in love with Lisa, but she's a married lady and way out of his class.

HH: How is this different from your other works?

SM: I've felt very deeply about this romance. Owen is my favorite hero. He and Lisa have so much going against them, making the reader wonder if love will triumph. Check out the video for this romance.

HH: What did you enjoy most about crafting this tale?

SM: I enjoyed creating the characters. There's Lisa and Owen and Lisa's weak husband. Then, too, I tried to make the strike itself almost as real as when it happened, presenting it as it did happen.

HH: What else do you have in store for lucky readers?

SM: I have other historical romances, plus fantasy and paranormal. You will find these at

HH: Where do you draw inspiration from?

SM: With historical romances, I get my ideas from actual historical happenings. With fantasy and paranormal, I let my mind run free.

HH: What's your writing schedule like?

SM: I set aside time in the afternoon to write and never deviate from my schedule, unless it's an emergency.

HH: Where can readers find you online?

SM: I have a website  Also at  Also a blog

HH: Do you have any special plans for the rest of this year?

SM: I have ideas for a paranormal and a few fantasy romances. I love writing. Thanks again for hosting me.

HH: Thank you!
