An Interview with Christina James

HH: Christina, thank you for talking with us at TRS! Your featured book is Web of Lies. What can you tell us about this intriguing romance? CJ: Web of Lies, set in Boston and New Hampshire, is about a single mom trying to do the best for her young daughter after divorcing her abusive, criminal husband. When her ex-husband resurfaces, he brings her nothing but trouble. There are twists and turns that will keep the reader turning the pages as time starts to run out for the single mom and her innocent daughter. How do you prove you're not guilty of something when no one will believe you?
HH: What do you like best about Amber and why will readers relate to her? CJ: I love how Amber does what she has to do to be a survivor. She is a sweet woman but don't mess with her daughter or she'll fight like a mama bear to protect her. Readers will relate to Amber because she deserves to finally have some peace and happiness in her life after all she's been through.
HH: What sort of research did you do for this series? CJ: I love watching any kind of shows that involve criminal investigations and I've learned a lot over the years. When this story formed in my head, I relied on what I learned to make my story be the best it could be. I've also worked with countless police officers and other law enforcement agencies and used those experiences as well.
HH: What else do you have in the works? CJ: Oh, boy... I have many, many projects in the works. Operation: Tempt Me, is the second book of my erotic military series with The Wild Rose Press and due out December 2011. Operation: Tame Me will be after that. Saving Christmas is a romantic suspense novella also coming out December 2011 from The Wild Rose Press. And I'll be self-publishing my contemporary romance, For the Love of a Woman, within the next month. I am also working on two more contemporary romances and two more erotic romances... so I have plenty of writing ahead and loving every minute!
HH: How do you view the future of ebooks? CJ: Well, I think ebooks are here to stay but so are print books. Ebooks are affordable and convenient, but as an author I still jump up and down when my print copies arrive and I hold my book in my hands. Ebooks are amazing in their accessibility... with the click of a button your book is at your fingers... that is quite awesome. So I think readers will continue to buy ebooks, especially with the abundance of brilliant authors and fantastic stories that small presses, like The Wild Rose Press, offer. There are many gems to be found and ebooks make them even more pleasurable to read.
HH: How much of your day is devoted to your writing career? CJ: At least half of it. I still work a full time job so my writing is limited to nights and weekends or while waiting in the dentist office with the kids. I will write anywhere and any time I can spare a few minutes. I always have a pen and paper with me for those times I find myself waiting at an appointment or something. Then I can brainstorm new ideas and keep my creative juices flowing. I also carry my WIP with me so I can make edits if I find myself hanging around with a few minutes. There's not a day that goes by when I'm not writing something for my books. If I'm completing a book or the story is flowing very well then I can stay up past bedtime (which is never before midnight anyways) to finish it…no matter that I get up at 6am. It's all worth it when I hear fans say how much they enjoyed the story.
HH: What's your favorite way to interact with readers? CJ: I love meeting readers in person but that's not always possible. I love to receive emails and feedback from readers and, of course, I love the release parties at The Romance Studio where I can share excerpts and receive comments from readers.
HH: What's your favorite guilty pleasure? CJ: Writing about sexy men and enjoying every second! What other career would allow me to sit for hours, fantasizing about a sexy man and bringing his story to life? I have the best job!
HH: Any conference or appearance plans this fall? CJ: I just got done with a busy summer of conferences and don't currently have any scheduled for the rest of this year. If time allows, I'd love to have a book signing.
