An Interview with Misty Evans
By Holly Hewson for The Romance Studio
HH: Misty, thank you for talking with us at TRS! Your featured book is the fabulous new anthology Entangled. What is so special about this spectacular anthology? ME: Thank you to TRS for having me! Entangled features eleven great paranormal romance and urban fantasy stories from the best authors in the industry, including Cynthia Eden, Jennifer Estep, Allison Brennan, Nancy Haddock, Liz Kreger, Edie Ramer, Dale Mayer, Lori Brighton, Michelle Miles, Michelle Diener and me. The best part is all the proceeds from the sale of this book go to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
HH: How did you come to be part of this project? ME: Edie Ramer emailed me one day and asked what I thought about doing an anthology for a charity. I jumped at the chance. After several more email discussions, we decided we'd do a paranormal anthology for Halloween and donate the proceeds to breast cancer research. Edie is a breast cancer survivor and one of the authors in the anthology. Liz Kreger, another fabulous author in Entangled, is currently fighting breast cancer.
Both my family and friends have been hit by this horrible disease, so I'm very passionate about finding a cure.
HH: What can you tell us about your contribution, Sweet Demon? ME: Kali Sweet, the vengeance demon in my new series, came to me one day out of the blue. I was on an editing deadline for another book, but she would not leave me alone. I wrote Sweet Demon as a way to test the waters and see if I liked her. In the first draft, she sounded too much like Amy, my witch in the Witches Anonymous books, and Kali wasn't happy with that at all. So I scrapped that version and started over. Kali is harder and edgier than Amy and definitely has her own voice!
HH: Which story in the anthology is your personal favorite? ME: Oh, put me on the spot! Actually, I haven't found one yet that I don't like. I love a good Halloween story and they're all engrossing. What's great about a collection like this is the diversity. If I'm in the mood for a ghost story, there's one of those. If I'd rather read about vamps or werewolves, I can find one. I will say, after reading Cynthia Eden's story, I'm hooked on her books.
The other great thing about this anthology is the foreword by Stacia Kane. It makes me cry every time I read it.
HH: What else do you have in the works? ME: I'm teaching online workshops and I'm writing the next super agent book. I also have the sequel to Soul Survivor to finish editing.
HH: How do you view the future of ebooks? ME: Ebooks are so convenient and offer a wider range of stories to readers, so I love them and hope the market will continue to grow. I still want my print books, too, but I'm running out of shelf space! Luckily, I still have plenty of room on my Kindle.
HH: How much of your day is devoted to your writing career? ME: Too much. LOL. But I love my career. To balance things out, I make a special effort to carve out time for my kids, hubby and friends, so I don't become *that* author who doesn't have a life. Family and friends (and my dog) come first, no matter what.
HH: What's your favorite way to interact with readers? ME: Fan mail, FB and twitter. They're all good. I love fan mail because it's so personal and specific. I save all the letters and emails readers send me and reread them when I'm having a bad day or get a not-so-great review. My absolute favorite way to interact with readers, though, is in person!
HH: What's your favorite guilty pleasure? ME: Twitter. It sucks me in every time and I end up wasting hours in the twitterverse.
HH: Any conference or appearance plans this fall? ME: Not this fall, but I plan to attend RT next spring.
HH: Thank you!
