About Kris Eton

For six years I worked as a technical writer. Then, my husband and I chucked it all to run a bed and breakfast. For the last two years, between cleaning rooms and making gourmet breakfasts, I have been writing fiction.

An Interview with Kris Eton
By Holly Hewson, Marketing Director for The Romance Studio

HH: Kris, welcome to TRS! Please tell us about your featured work, Snowdrift.

KE: Here's the official blurb for SNOWDRIFT:

When Piper Henderson and her boyfriend join friends for a winter getaway, little does she know her high school crush, Jacob Townsend, would show up. At first, she fights off her fantasies, but when they are trapped after an avalanche, they both discover how strong an old flame can be.

HH: Your heroine is in a tough situation including boyfriend, old flame, and avalanche. Where did you get the idea for this sizzling story?

KE: I actually drew on my own experience with a secret crush. I was in love with this guy for three years in high school...I don't think he ever knew it. I wanted to explore what would happen if that old crush came back into someone's life years later. Would she take her experience in relationships and men and use it to her advantage? Or would she fall back into old habits? I've seen a lot of winter cabin stories, so I thought the avalanche would add a bit of suspense to the story. People act differently after something like that...let their guard down, that kind of thing. It was a heck of a lot of fun!

HH: What do you like best about Jacob?

KE: What I like best is that Jacob used to be the confident football hero. He was the big man on campus and had everything going for him. When he has an injury and can't continue on as the football star, he has to learn how to move on with his life. I like to write about men who have issues. Problems that keep them from being the confident guy every girl wants to be with. Jacob is hot & sexy, but he is hung up on his failed football career and can't seem to see everything else he has going for him.

HH: What did you enjoy most about writing this story?

KE: The banter. There was some great dialogue in there! Jacob is there with his younger sister, and they have a goofy relationship. The typical teasing older brother. And it filters over into his conversations with Piper. It was also enjoyable to explore their high school history--the events that shaped them into the adults they are. We bring a lot of baggage from our teen years into our adult relationships, and it was great to be able to explore these characters and who they were many years ago.

HH: So what are you working on now?

KE: Well, I have so many ideas about what I want to do next, it's driving me a little crazy. Currently, I am working on a mainstream paranormal suspense book. But once that is completed, I have an idea for an erotic paranormal trilogy that would be a heck of a lot of fun to write. It would center around three witches who are sisters, each with her own sexy power. Another witch throws down a challenge...a romantic challenge...and the books would explore each sister and how she takes on the challenge and finds true love. I have a few paranormal romance ideas, and this one stuck with me.

HH: What else do you have in store for readers in 2008?

KE: On February 29th, I have another new release. This book is called VARGAS GIRL. It will also be available from Cobblestone Press. You can visit my website for more information. I will be posting an excerpt any day now. After that I have another book coming out called MOONLIGHTING. It will be available through the Wild Rose Press under their Scarlet Rose line. I should have a cover soon, which will make an appearance on my website. As soon as I get through the editing, I will post an excerpt on my site. I think that one is planned to come out in March...so I'm pretty busy right now!

HH: What do you enjoy most about being a writer?

KE: I absolutely love coming up with fabulous ideas and getting the chance to follow them through until the end. I always start out with the idea of writing a story *I* would love to read. And being able to uncover that story piece by piece, watch my characters come to life, is more fun than you could imagine.

HH: What challenges do you face in your career?

KE: I need to work harder at writing every day. There are so many books I want to write, but I have to get them down on paper...and that takes work! I would hate for any of my ideas to linger in a text file somewhere never to see the light of day.

HH: What do you enjoy reading?

KE: I am a huge fan of historical romance. Love them. I'm really excited to see that authors are breathing new life into historicals with a sexier edge to them. I also love a good thriller.

HH: What you most like for readers to know about you?

KE: I love to hear from readers! It's really satisfying to know I entertained someone and that they enjoyed the work I put into a story. I also would want my readers to know that I value writing an entertaining story. I really am not into writing books just to have more of them out there for people to read. If the quality is not there, then I don't want to write it. I really try hard to think of how my characters would act if they were real people, and I hope it shows in my writing.

HH: Thank you!
