An Interview with Paula Calloway

HH: Paula, welcome to The Romance Studio! Please tell us about your featured book, A Cry in the Night. PC: Werewolves in today's stories shift when desired. Sadly, the one thing that is supposed to rule them is nothing more than a mere light in the night sky. Nature's power of full moons, lunar cycles and the tide shifts are forces that should never lose their part in a creature created to work with them. I took the Werewolves of days lost, from times long ago and legends faded and brought them back. Now the Were, the Beast and the Wolves need help. Only one legendary creature has ever been able to tangle with a Beast and survivevampires. Once known as healers in some ancient realms, they walk the earth and care for the Were who cry out in the night, protect the Wolves lost to the feral side and intercept the hunted Beast in its bloodlust frenzied search for human flesh.
HH: Where did you get the idea for this intriguing tale? PC: It’s an entwinement of my father's love of the old Werewolf and my version of the new Vampire.
HH: What do you like best about Talen? PC: His old world charm, the way he treats the woman he loves, the fact that he sees with his heart and not his eyes.
HH: What did you enjoy most about writing this story? PC: All of it really. Watching Talen handle the many different situations that faced him was interesting.
HH: What challenges did you face? PC: Ditmyer. *giggle* He tried to steal the show, but Talen was set in telling his story first. Ditmyer’s lurking around, waiting for his own story. =)
HH: What are you working on now? PC:
The Collective Mind anthology from eXatsy Books. A story in the Atlantis Allure called A Tale of a Tail. Reed is a handful to tangle with! LOL
HH: How did you get your start as a writer? PC: A dream. For several nights, this one particular dream haunted me. It got to the point that I learned to use a computer and started writing what I dreamed. It turned into a story and continued to grow. It must be edited, but I’m hoping to get it out soon.
HH: How have things changed since then? PC: Not much. The characters still hang around, talk, argue, growl and glare, but they no longer haunt me. Usually I threaten to stop typing and they quiet down a bit. I have to wrangle them in about once a week. Except one very quiet, very patient male I have yet to hear from.
HH: What’s your favorite guilty pleasure? PC: *slow smile* I actually had to ask and the response was tormenting my little sisters.
HH: Will readers or fans be able to find you at any conferences or conventions this year? PC: I really wish I could, but not this year. However, the eXtasy authors are starting a monthly chat on the eXfactor. The chats begin in April and are an all day event on the 10th of each month. Hope to see ya’ll there. =)
