An Interview with Brenda Williamson
By Holly Hewson for The Romance Studio
HH: Brenda, thank you for talking with us at TRS BLUE. Your featured book is Wasteland Rogue. Where did the idea for this amazing story originate?
BW: It was a combination of several things, starting with my ambition to write a different kind of vampire story. Blending that with my love of post apocalyptic wasteland themed movies like Solar Babies, The Road Warrior and Cyborg and my video game addiction to games like World of Warcraft and Resident Evil, I was inspired to write Wasteland Rogue.
HH: What do you like best about Rye and why will readers identify with her?
BW: She tough, resilient and independent, but she also has a fierce loyalty to those she loves.
HH: What do you like best about Sevrin and why will readers love him?
BW: He too is a tough and resilient character, but unlike Rye, he wears his heart on his sleeve and doesn’t see it as being less a man by showing his love for the woman he wants.
HH: How did you go about creating their world?
BW: As with all my stories, I start with a scene I want to write and it somehow evolves from there.
HH: What else do you have in store for lucky readers?
BW: I’m presently working on the sequel to Wasteland Rogue involving his twin brother.
HH: When did you know you wanted to be a writer?
BW: When I was a teenager. It all started with a neighborhood newsletter that a friend and I hand typed and sold for a nickel. I’ve been writing articles and stories since.
HH: Do you have appearances, in person or online, planned for the fall?
BW: I don’t go out in public much. I’m a homebody that lives in the country. My appearance online are sporadic when I have time to chat on Facebook and Twitter.
HH: What inspires you in your writing?
BW: Everything. It can be something I see at the stroe, something I hear on the radio, something I watch on the television. Inspiration is everywhere as my mind is always on writing.
HH: What are you reading at the moment?
BW: My own words. I haven’t had a chance to read anything lately with writing and edits. But when I do read, I enjoy non-fiction, especially historical books.
HH: Do you celebrate Halloween, and if so, how?
BW: How could I not celebrate, it’s my birthday! I usually dress as a witch, watch scary movies and eat a lot of candy.
HH: Thank you!top
