Reviews for the Primal Attraction

"Shelli Stevens kept me on the edge of my seat with Primal Attraction. I love the title because the male lead character, Caden, was primal to his core. He was virile and deadly but I loved watching him love Sarina. Their coming together was raw and sensual. It was perfect for the storyline in my opinion. Ms. Stevens continues to hold my attention with every book she writes. I am officially a fan!" - Talia, Joyfully Reviewed

About Shelli Stevens

Shelli read her first romance novel when she was eleven. It was a Harlequin that she snuck off her mom's bookshelf, and she was forever hooked on romance novels. It wasn't until many years later that she decided to pursue writing stories of her own. By then she acknowledged the voices in her head didn't make her crazy, they made her a writer.

Shelli currently lives in the Pacific Northwest with her young daughter, where she is President of her local RWA (Romance Writers of America) chapter. She loves to hear from readers and tends to frequent the blogosphere. When not writing, she enjoy music, reading, being outdoors, exercising, and spending time with her family and friends.

An Interview with Shelli Stevens
By Holly Hewson, Marketing Director for The Romance Studio

HH: Shelli, welcome back to TRS BLUE. Please tell us about your featured work, Primal Attraction.

SS: Primal Attraction is a sensual futuristic romance I wrote to explore a different genre of romance. It follows a woman scientist who visits a planet she assumes to be abandoned, and finds a whole lot more than she thought she would.

HH: Your heroine only intends to do research on a forgotten colony. She gets more than she bargained for. Where did you get the idea for this sexy, suspenseful story?

SS: I'm not really sure where I got it. Maybe I'd eaten some bad Thai food the night before I came up with the idea? Or something? Who knows. I'd written another futuristic book and wanted to try one more. I really do enjoy them! It's a change from my lighter stuff and I like to alternate every now and then.

HH: What do you like best about Caden?

SS: Caden is a strong leader. He's concerned and fiercely defensive for the welfare of his people. He's also rationale and ready to consider the truth might not be black and white. He's passionate and loves completely.

HH: What was world building like for you on this project?

SS: I actually based this planet on earth, and I guess the 'word' I created was the Wolfan species. That was fun. Creating a time line of how the species was created and evolved.

HH: What are you working on now?

SS: I JUST finished my third submission for my Seattle Steam books, called Taken, and have subbed it to my editor. Now I'm up in the air on projects, I have two options I want to work on. Either the second novella in a three novella series I'm writing, or the book that continues after my single title book out and about for consideration.

HH: What else do you have in store for readers in 2008?

SS: I have my second book in the Seattle Steam series Tempting Adam coming out in early April from Samhain Publishing.

HH: What changes have you seen in the genre in the last year?

SS: I've actually strayed a bit from erotic romance and have been using more of my lighter sexier stuff--often it doesn't make the cut for erotic *Grin* I do notice erotic seems to get hotter and hotter.

HH: What do you think women readers find so appealing about erotic romance?

SS: I think it gives them the opportunity to not only read a good romance, but the door stays open when the lovers become intimate...I think many readers like it a little hotter now. With movies and television pushing the envelope, it's only normal it would spill over into books. It's fun, it's a little bit naughty. How can you not love it?

HH: If you weren't writing, what would you be doing?

SS: I would be the voice of the heroine in Disney movies. We are talking about our 'fantasy' right? Because that would be so much fun! *singing* "Flippin' your fins, you don't get too far. Legs are required for jumpin', dancin. Strollin' along down the--What's that word again? Street..."

HH: What do you consider your own unique contribution to the romance genre?

SS: Hmm. That's a hard question, but I'll aim for an overly simple answer. I write stories that have fun plots, hot love scenes, and you get to laugh throughout. With some of my books at least. Primal Attraction is my more intense, suspenseful side. I have a couple genres I like to alternate in. But most of my stuff is hot and funny. I hope. Unless I'm the only one laughing? Oh dear...

HH: Thank you!
