Jim likes the shivery feeling he gets from the reserved woman in the black dress and veiled hat. With little effort, he imagines her writhing beneath him, trembling while she comes apart in mindless release. His wife has proved that grand passion doesn't last in a marriage, but he needs to experience again the deep satisfaction that comes from giving and taking pleasure in a woman's body.
For one night, a blaze of wanton desire lights the world of two people, a husband and a wife, looking to feel alive again. If they were just married to each other, the night would be perfect. Still, they can make each other sizzle-if only for a night.

About Dee S. Knight Prior to writing her first fiction only a few years ago, Dee S. Knight lived a varied lifestyle. After college she married her high school sweetheart and they became house parents at a home for wards of the court. Thus, she went from newlywed to "mother" of a dozen teenage boys, in a month. Two years of living in one city proved to be enough, and she and her husband spent the next eight years as long-distance truckers. Swiftly following their trucking years, she became a computer consultant, high school and adult ed teacher, technical writer and novelist. More than thirty years later, she's still married to her own hero and finds life infinitely interesting. They currently reside in the Midwest.

An Interview with Dee S. Knight
By Holly Hewson, Marketing Director for The Romance Studio
HH: Dee, welcome back to TRS BLUE. Please tell us about your featured work, If Only For a Night.DSK: Holly, thanks so much for this opportunity to tell your readers about my work. I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday and is looking forward to a fabulous new year.
If Only For a Night is a short story about a woman and man who have lost that spark of passion in their (separate) marriages. They meet in a San Francisco hotel lounge and decide to do something they've never done before-seek comfort in the arms of a stranger. They both need to remember what life used to be. In the end, they discover the secret of a happy marriage.
HH: Two lonely people stepping outside of their boundaries for a night of pure sex. Where did you get the idea for this sizzling story? DSK: You know what? I think most of us want to do something like this. In the deep recesses of our hearts, given the chance, and assuming nothing would be discovered, most women would take the chance to jump the bones of a perfect stranger. The thing is, we don't believe we can run wild for a night and not have repercussions. Good thing, because society would run amok if everyone ran off and did what they felt like. But in this case, the results are good.
HH: What do you like best about Jim? DSK: Jim was sweet. He didn't rush to send her a drink-he was third. He didn't jump at cheating, but when he realized he, too, needed something more in his life, he wasn't afraid to take the step forward. Of course, he was still cheating, so he's a somewhat flawed hero. When you reach the end, I think you'll see that he makes amends and faces reality.
HH: What did you enjoy most about writing this story? DSK: I really liked writing the bar scene. It was sensual and revealed the tiny steps of the seduction. Neither character had done this before, and it was so obvious. I liked that they were hesitant and yet knew what they needed-and wanted. Desire was heavy in the scene.
HH: This is published by Whispers. What can you tell us about this publishing house? DSK: I truly love Whispers. Their editing is top-notch, and the owner, Dawn, is a joy to work with. Also, I thought my cover for If Only For a Night was great. It's just an all-around good company to be with. I also have another short story with them, Coming Home, a paranormal, which is among my favorite works.
I've been lucky in my publishing associations so far. Liquid Silver was wonderful to take me on when I SO knew nothing about what I was doing. They're a really good company and honest and good to work with. Then Samhain is a shooting star in the publishing world. They're professional and easy to work with. My editor at Samhain, Sasha, was great on my story Second Wind, and I'm looking forward to working with her again.
HH: What are you working on now?
DSK: Right now, I'm working with my good friend Francis Drake on the second in the Passionate PI series, a book called Saving Brigit. The first book, She Shouldn't, But She Will (Siren Publishing) is doing well and we hope to have this next one out by mid-2008.
For Dee, I'm working on a couple of novellas. One is the first in a series of poker stories. It's tentatively called Dealer's Choice, and has a hero who's dyslexic. To his surprise, he falls for his best friend's younger sister. The other novella is my first shapeshifter. I had the idea from Samhain's cat shapeshifter anthology. I wanted to write this story for them, but I didn't get it finished in time to submit. Anyway, I'm finding that writing shapeshifting is kind of fun. I don't have a name yet, but I think it'll have something to do with pussies. =)
I'm hoping to have both stories complete in the next few months.
HH: What do you have in store for readers in 2008?
DSK: The things mentioned above, plus a novel about a man who's trying to become head of a posh, stuck-up private school who falls for a former stripper. It might be called Daniel in the Lioness's Den, or something like that. (Thanks to my good friend and critique partner, Vanessa Hart, for that title idea.)
Plus, darn it, I'm still revising my erotic murder mystery, Cyber-Kill. Again, lol. I'd love to have it accepted somewhere this year.
HH: You've got a well established writing career. What do you enjoy about writing still? DSK: I love that I can put something I imagined on paper and it means something to someone. A reviewer recently said that she could feel what the character in Coming Home was going through because her husband had been in Vietnam. That brought tears to my eyes. Others have said If Only For a Night and Second Wind show the real problems in a marriage. It's amazing to me that something that starts as a glimmer of an idea in my mind can touch someone else. It keeps me going.
HH: What do you do when you're stuck in a story? DSK: Do you mean "stuck" as in I can't get it off my mind? When that happens, I try to write like a fiend, and I talk incessantly about my characters. Jack (my hubby) gets sick of hearing about characters and plots and motivations. =)
If you mean what do I do if I get stuck and can't figure out what to do next, it's kind of the same thing. I don't write like a fiend, but I do talk Jack's ear off. He suggests something, I parry the thought, he suggests something else, I talk to my critique partners, and then something strikes a chord and I zip off to write it down. It will get tweaked a hundred times, and hopefully it ends up sounding true. I don't let being stuck get me down. ;)
HH: What do you enjoy reading? DSK: I love Jasmine Haynes. Her (RITA-nominated) book, Somebody's Lover, is fabulous. So is Cheryl Norman's Restore My Heart. Anything Leigh Wyndfield or Keira Ramsay write is always sure to hit the spot. Of course Francis Drake, but since we sometimes write together that's not really fair. Outside my circle of friends, my favorite is Nelson DeMille. I also love Lisa Kleypas, Susan Elizabeth Phillips, Julia Quinn, Frederick Forsyth, Neil Gaimon. There are so many great writers and I have eclectic tastes.
