Suddenly, a flash of green pierces the darkness just moments before Serena hits the animal that jumps in front of her truck. In the torrential downpour and inky blackness surrounding her, it's difficult for her to see what she believes is her neighbor's dog. Serena is compelled to save the animal and manages to get it into the back of her pickup and make it safely home.
But when she pulls back the tarp she'd used to cover the hurt dog, Serena gets the surprise of her life. The dog is gone.
In its place is a man.
A naked man!
The air between them crackles like the lightning, but Garrett Slater's dark secrets and shape-shifting existence put Serena's life in grave danger, unless he can convince her to trust him. Can he save her from the mysterious perils of life in Silver, Wyoming, or will Serena shun the protection and the love he offers her?
Reviews for High Voltage
5 Stars
"Ms. Fox did an awesome job with HIGH VOLTAGE. She brings elements of humor into her story as well as the shapeshifter main story she presents. It grabs your attention and your heartfelt feelings for the injured animal then breaks wide open as the explanation is given. What, you thought I would spoil it for you? No way, baby. You’re just going to have to read it for yourself. You will be glad you did. I was!" - Robin, MR Reviews

An Interview with Calista Fox
By Holly Hewson, Marketing Director for The Romance Studio
HH: Calista, welcome to TRS BLUE. Please tell us about your featured work, High Voltage. CF: Thank you! So nice to be here! I absolutely love this story and I hope my readers will, too. It's already received some great reviews and I think that's because it's a story that resonates with readers. While it is a shape-shifter story, the heart of this book is the fantastic characters that are a bit flawed and damaged emotionally, but filled with such optimism that they can allow each other to see past the surface and delve deep into their souls. My heroine, Serena, is a little quirky, but an absolute dynamo. My hero, Garrett, is an alpha-male (of course!), but takes great care with Serena's emotions and her heart. The chemistry between them is off the charts!

HH: Your hero is a unique shape-shifter and his dark secrets put your heroine in danger. Where did you get the idea for this sizzling story? CF: The overall concept is a broader premise from another book I'm working on, but pulling in the shape-shifting elements, the electrically charged environment and the characters' reactions to each other just sort of fell into place once I'd decided to write about this remote town in Wyoming that's plagued by these spectacular thunderstorms. As it is, I think storms are very sexy, so it was easy to make the story sizzle with all the electrical elements.
HH: What do you like best about Garrett Slater? CF: He's hot! LOL Oh, well, beyond that… Let's see. I think one of the most complex things about this man is that he's a true alpha male, but he's got such depth to him that he's connected to his surroundings and he really feels intense emotions. Also, he cares about people. He's got a huge heart and he's fiercely protective of those he loves, and that just makes him even sexier!
HH: This is part of the fantastic line of new ebooks at Red Sage. What can you tell us about this? CF: If you haven't checked out the new e-books Red Sage is offering, I highly recommend you head straight to their new website! (www.eredsage.com) Fans of the Secrets volumes have already discovered that they can buy the volumes online now, but in between the release of the anthologies, eRed Sage is offering these wonderful e-books. The stories are scorching hot and the covers are absolutely beautiful! I am so happy to be a part of this new venture.
My e-book ONE WISH helped to launch the site back in November, and now they release two books a month.
HH: What can you tell us about One Wish? CF: It was another fun one to write. I've really gotten into the diversity of characters lately, giving them traits I haven't tapped into before. This story is about an adorable, mischievous genie who's sprung from her decrepit habitat at precisely the perfect moment. The woman who unwittingly frees Serafina is the owner of a run-down saloon she inherited from her uncle. Nothing goes as planned in Jillian Anderson's life, including the on-again, off-again romance she has with bad boy Luke Parsons, a free spirit who drifts in and out of her life. But Sera is on hand to sprinkle a little magic in Jillian's life, and what you end up with is a very heartwarming story with some tragic moments in it, but a beautiful, happy ending. Also, this story is set in Sedona, Arizona, and if you've ever had the good fortune to visit the quaint town, you know it's not only surrounded by breathtaking red-rock canyons, but it has a mystical quality that's really unique. (By the way, I've got a great contest for this book on my website at www.calistafox.com. You don't want to miss it!)
HH: What else can readers look forward to from you? CF: Oh, I have a long list of upcoming releases! I've been very busy this past year! My biggest news is that my novel, OBJECT OF DESIRE, will be released this year by Red Sage Publishing. It is only their second single title release, so this is very exciting for me. It's an action-packed, highly erotic story with bold and daring characters and a very "Lara Croft meets Mission Impossible" feel to it. It's a fun book with a sizzling hot romance! Last I heard, it may release this summer, and I can't wait!
Also, readers will find my stories in two more Secrets volumes this year. Volume 23 (July '08) will feature FOREVER MY LOVE, a vampire/witch/gypsy story that has a pretty unique and complex plot and really interesting characters. Volume 26 (Dec. '08) will feature SECRET RENDEZVOUS, which is the last story (maybe!) in my Rendezvous trilogy that revolves around an upscale dating service/lounge in Manhattan.
I've also got two stories scheduled for release this year from Ellora's Cave: JADEN'S WICKED WITCH (June '08) and UNITL JAKE ('08).
I have several other novellas under contract; unfortunately, I don't have specific release dates yet.
HH: How did you get your start as a writer? CF: Seems to be something you're born with. I've always considered myself a writer even before I decided to make it my profession. I'm one of those writers who love to lie in bed and dream up stories. I play them like movies in my head until I've worked out the basic nuances and then I start writing. Professionally, I began writing in college for newspapers, and then I landed an incredible job in PR with the CEO of a health care company. I wrote his speeches and Congressional testimonies and other communications and it was the absolute best experience! But my heart is really set on fiction, so I made the shift in 2004. And it's been a fun ride ever since!
HH: How do you keep the writing process fresh for yourself? CF: I'm one of those fortunate writers who never run out of ideas. They don't all work conceptually, of course, but I've got a pretty high success rate thus far. What I try to do to keep things fresh is vary my settings and change predominant character traits, so all my settings and characters don't feel like they're the same from book to book. I think that's critical!
HH: What, to this point, are you most proud of in your career? CF: Deciding I was going to be a published author and doing it is a huge achievement in my eyes. I really didn't know if it was possible, especially after speaking with so many writers who have been trying for years to break into the business. I was extremely fortunate that Red Sage bought my very first manuscript, IN THE HEAT OF THE NIGHT (Secrets Vol. 13, July '05). It was instant gratification, yes. But it was also the shove in the right direction that I needed. And now what's most important to me is to continue to grow as a writer and try to craft the best stories I can for my readers.
HH: Any vacation plans this year? CF: I'm always on vacation! At least, that's how I look at it. I travel so much-just about every week. And wherever I go, I always fit in some time to immerse myself in the local culture. My absolute favorite thing to do is find a great restaurant or lounge with a spectacular view and warm ambience and pull out my laptop and write. Anything by the water is most inspirational to me, so I'm typically by the ocean or a lake. I did London last year for Christmas, so I'm contemplating Paris this year. Depends on my sales… LOL
HH: Thank you!
