When Sapphire Jewel turns to him on the final evening he’s assigned to protect her, ex-Army Ranger and security expert Jake Knight sweeps her into bed. His personality and his profession have shaped him into a man who needs to be in control of all aspects of his life -- especially in the bedroom. He’s not into the whole dominant/submission BDSM stuff, but he does need to be the dominant force when it comes to physical relationships. Fearing his sexual demands are too much for her to handle, Jake does the only thing he can to protect her -- he leaves her. Sapphire is in love with her bodyguard. One night of intense, passionate sex has him running for the door and she doesn’t know why. When Jake unexpectedly shows up in her life again, she must decide if she can live with the sexual demands he’ll make of her. But most of all, she must decide if she can once again risk her heart. |

About NJ Walters Once upon a time N.J. had the idea that she would like to quit her job at the bookstore, sell everything she owned, leave her hometown, and write romance novels in a place where no one knew her. And she did. Two years later, she went back to the bookstore and her hometown and settled in for another seven years. One day she gave notice at her job on a Friday morning. On Sunday afternoon, she received a tentative acceptance for her first erotic romance novel and life would never be the same. N.J. has always been a voracious reader, and now she spends her days writing novels of her own. Vampires, werewolves, dragons, time-travelers, seductive handymen, and next-door neighbors with smoldering good looks -- all vie for her attention. It’s a tough life, but someone’s got to live it. By Holly Hewson for The Romance Studio NJ: Sapphire Jewel first appeared as a minor character in Jackson’s Jewel. There are three Jewel sisters -- Emerald, Topaz and Sapphire. Emerald’s story is in Jackson’s Jewel, and Topaz’s story is A Touch of Topaz. The wounded hero in this story is Jake Knight. He’s twin brother to John Knight, the hero in Touch of Topaz. It’s quite a family affair. =) I knew when I introduced the sisters in Jackson’s Jewel that I would have to write books for all of them. They had bodyguards in that book and that set the wheels in my mind in motion. And Sapphire and Jake’s story is sizzling! BLURB: HH: What do you like best about Sapphire and why will readers empathize with her? NJ: Sapphire is a strong, independent woman who’s had her heart broken, but she’s picked up the pieces and moved on. Like a lot of us, she has self-doubt and is coming to accept herself for what she is when Jake storms back into her life. HH: What do you like best about Jake and why will readers love him? NJ: I’m a sucker for a wounded hero and Jake certainly is that. He left Sapphire because he thought that was what was best for her, but he still keeps an eye on her and is there when she gets into trouble. Jake’s strength is his willingness to admit he was wrong, his ability to change, to open himself up to love. HH:What did you enjoy most about writing this story and what do you think readers will take away from it? NJ:I enjoyed watching the relationship between Sapphire and Jake unfold. It’s a very rocky road and both of them are afraid of being hurt. But even then there is an underlying love and respect for one another that is wonderful to experience. I hope readers enjoy their love story. The path to love isn’t always easy, but if you truly love the person then it is certainly worth the effort. You can’t change someone. All you can truly do is accept them for who they are. HH: What else do you have in store for lucky readers? NJ: 2013 is the year of the Hades’ Carnival series. Night of the Tiger was just released in January and Mark of the Bear is due out in April. Pride of the Lion and Howl of the Wolf don’t have release dates yet, but it will be sometime later this year. There will also be a new Tapestries book this year. No release date yet, but I’ll post on my website when I know something definite. HH: How does 2013 promise to be different from 2012 for you? NJ: I’m hoping 2013 is as wonderful a year career wise as 2012 was. I should have five or six new eBooks releasing and at least three print books. I’m also hoping to find the time to work on a new project, not for any publisher in particular, but just because it’s an idea I’ve been wanting to play with for a while now. HH: Where do you find inspiration for your stories? NJ: Everywhere! I recently did a guest blog at Delilah Devlin’s Blog talking about just this subject. Honestly, it can be a snippet of conversation, something I read in a magazine or see on television, or it can come straight out of thin air. Usually it’s the combination of a couple of different ideas that sets my mind racing. The idea for the Hades’ Carnival series came from a blog quiz I did a few years ago. The quiz basically told you which carnival ride you’d be based on how you answered the questions. It was no surprise to me that I would be a carousel. But that got me to thinking about carousels, and I wondered what a carousel would be like if the animals were more exotic, even mythical. Then I wondered what would happen if the animals were really shapeshifting warriors? How did they get there? How would they be released? Next thing I knew I had a four-book series outlined. HH: What's your writing schedule like? NJ: I like to write first thing in the morning before my mind gets too cluttered with all the other stuff that makes up a life. I find I’m much more creative at that time of the day. I can work on edits at any time, but fresh writing is better in the morning. HH: What's your favorite way to interact with readers? NJ: The internet has changed the way writers and readers interact. I love my publishers’ Yahoo Groups and I love Facebook. It’s wonderful to be able to communicate directly with readers. HH: What are you most looking forward to in 2013? NJ: I’m looking forward to having a bunch of new releases this year and stretching myself creatively as I continue to write. I have the best job in the world! HH: Thank you!
