He might be everything a woman fantasizes about, but he wants a little more than she can give.

Possession...
Lord Alek, Younger Duke of Draig, has not been lucky in finding his life mate. Resigned to a lonely life, he attends the bridal ceremony out of familial duty. Then the impossible happens--Kendall. Nothing goes according to tradition, but he can't let that dissuade him. She is his only chance at happiness, and no matter how she protests, he's not going to let her get away.

An Interview with Michelle M. Pillow
By Holly Hewson for The Romance Studio

HH: Michelle, thank you for talking with us at TRS! Your featured book is The Stubborn Lord and is part of your Dragon Lords series. What can you tell us about the series and where you got the idea for it?

MP: Thank you for having me.

The Dragon Lord series idea actually started as a single title futuristic short story. Two months later it had exploded into the first four books. At the time I wrote mostly historical novels and thought these would just be a nice change from those. I was stunned by how fast they took off and they're now hands down reader favorites and my bestsellers. The Dragon Lords have since led to the spin off series: Lords of the Var, Space Lords, Zhang Dynasty, Galaxy Playmates and more to come.

HH: What can you tell us about the books that came before in the series?

MP: The first four Dragon Lord books follow the loves of the four dragon shifting princes on the planet. They were the original series. Then came the Lords of the Var (books 1-5) that showed readers the dragon shifter's enemy's point of view on the same planet. Now, I'm releasing Dragon Lords books 5-8 which show the prince's cousins. The Stubborn Lord is book 6. The princes were pretty lucky when it came to finding their brides. They only took one attempt. The cousins are not so lucky. They've been trying for years with no luck and believe themselves to be un-favored by the gods. So when love comes, they're a bit over eager which causes some problems.

HH: How does The Stubborn Lord continue it?

MP: Each book in the series is designed to be read as a standalone focusing on one couple. However, there are larger themes that thread throughout the series so I think most readers like to attack the series from book one and read them in order. The fun thing about the books are that they happen over the same time period. So you get to see different situations from different points of view and with each book you learn something different about what is happening in the others.

HH: What do you like best about Kendall and why will readers be cheering for her?

MP: Kendall has had it rough and I think it's something, sadly, that a few people can relate to. She's had to raise her sister after the death of her step mother. Her father has a gambling problem and she's left to take care of everything from a young age. When her father's gambling problem gets out of hand, he loses her as property to the casino. Being as this is futuristic, they don't have our modern Earth laws. Despite everything that happens to her, Kendall has a lot of love to give -- sometimes to a fault. She's willing to sacrifice her own happiness for others, especially the little sister she was forced to leave behind.

HH: What do you like best about Alek and why will readers love him?

MP: He's stubborn. He's alpha. He's one hundred thousand percent sure that the gods haven't made a mistake and his marriage to Kendall is fate. Only, Kendall is not cooperating. Who doesn't like to see the alpha meet his match? All that said, he's got a really kind spirit and is great with animals.

HH: What else do you have in store for lucky readers?

MP: Dragon Lords 7-8 are next in line. Then I have more Space Lord series books, more Dragon Lords spin offs...actually there are some many futuristics planned I'll just keep writing them as long as readers demand them.

HH: What do you enjoy most about being an author?

MP: I'm paid to make things up for a living. What's not to love?

HH: How has your writing career changed since you started out?

MP: I've learned so much. When I first started, hardly anyone knew what an ebook was. I was constantly explaining it. I stared with an e-first publishing house and always believed that ebooks were the wave of the future. It's nice to have been proven right. Now most of my books sold are ebooks.

HH: What do you think has been the most positive change?

MP: I've really grown as an author. I've been lucky enough to work with small presses, big NY publishers, agents, magazines, and now indie publishing. I've seen a lot of industry and overall... I love it. I love new opportunities and trying new things. This industry is constantly changing and giving me that.

HH: Where can readers find you online?

MP: I have the best readers. I'm truly blessed. They're wonderfully supportive. They follow me as I genre hop (I write fantasy, dark fantasy, paranormal, historical, contemporary, futuristic and about every combination you can think of). I can't say thank you enough to them.
