An Interview with B.J. McCall
By Holly Hewson for The Romance Studio
HH: Thank you for talking with us at TRS. Your featured book is Moonstruck. This is the latest in your fabulous Moonlust series. What can you tell us about the series?
BJ: The Moonlust series is a collection of wolf-shifter stories. Each book deals with the issues werewolves would confront if they lived in our world. Shifter packs would have their own rules while existing within human society. Ruling elders, pack laws and mating rituals present conflicts I explore in the series. At the heart of each book is the love story, the thrill of finding one’s true mate.
HH: What can you tell us about the books that came before Moonstruck?
BJ: Lycaon Moon, Lunar Eclipse and Mark of the Moon are stories dealing with pack life. The three books are available in a collection titled Lunar Eclipse.
Mating Moon, Claiming Moon, Moonlust and Moonstruck are stories about the agents of the Federal Paranormal Crime Unit. The books tackle the issue of crimes by and against the paranormal community. The stories are about the agents who juggle living within the human world while holding onto the values of being part of the pack.
HH: How does Moonstruck continue the series and will there be more?
BJ: Moonstuck introduces my first female FPCU agent. She’s caught a case that tears at the fabric of her heart. There are more stories to come in 2013.
HH: What do you like best about Rilee and why do you think readers will relate to her?
BJ: Rilee loves her job. She’s dedicated and works hard to perform in the alpha world of werewolf law enforcement. The Nightskye case challenges Rilee on a very personal level. She has a crime to solve, but the suspect is her twin sister. No matter how she handles the case, her family will suffer. The victim is human, but he throws Rilee’s emotions into chaos. A good agent doesn’t get involved with the victim, especially a moonstuck human that was involved with the suspect.
HH: What do you like best about Pierce and why will readers love him?
BJ: Pierce is human and he’s hot. He wants the valuable Nightskye and he wants Rilee, but will he make the right choice?
HH: I love the aspect of the heroine's twin sister. What can you tell us about her story arc?
BJ: Ariel is a bad she-wolf. She’s been a manipulator all her life. Males, especially humans, have always danced to her tune. She’s smart, but unlike her twin she doesn’t follow the rules. She wants the Nightskye and is willing to get rid of anyone, werewolf or human, who gets in her way.
HH: What else do you have in store for lucky readers?
BJ: Last month, Covert, the third book in my Dragonfire series was released.
Coming in September is Beguiled my second book in Changeling Press’ multi-author, sci-fi series, Spaceport. My first Spaceport book was Scavenger.
December will bring Changeling Press’ Christmas series, Santa’s Helpers. My contribution to the multi-author, holiday series is Wolf Run.
HH: What goals have you set for yourself at this point in your career?
BJ: My primary goal is to enjoy writing and deliver a good product. I don’t want to lose the joy writing brings to my life.
HH: What do you enjoy reading?
BJ: I like a variety of genres. I enjoy futuristic, suspense, thrillers and paranormal stories. As long as the story is good, I’ll read any genre.
HH: What are you most looking forward to before the year's end?
BJ: I want to create a new series. The creation process is so exciting. HH: Thank you!
