By Holly Hewson for The Romance Studio BJ: The idea for Pleasure Pact came from an old song. The song tells a story about a young man and woman who are in love, but separated by two factors: their tribes are at war and a raging river divides their tribal lands. In my story the Arasani and Chanta packs fought a war over a sacred mountain. A peace treaty, the Pleasure Pact, ended the war, but the wolf packs remain enemies and a river borders their pack lands. The song ends tragically, but my heroine and hero defy tradition and bring the packs together. HH: What do you like best about Fawn and why will readers empathize with her? BJ: Fawn is a female striving for equality in a male dominated wolf pack. Unfortunate circumstances have given Fawn the opportunity to step into the role of pack leader, breaking with tradition. She’s fully qualified and ready to take on the responsibility, but the elders of the pack, all males, aren’t convince a she-wolf can or should handle the job. Fawn is determined to succeed and part of the job is fulfilling the pleasure pact. Fawn’s toughest challenge is falling in love. Nash is the right wolf from the wrong pack and the timing couldn’t be worse. HH: What do you like best about Nash and why will readers love him? BJ: He loves his job, his family and his pack, but his love for Fawn trumps it all. She’s his mate, the one for him and he’s willing leave it all for her. HH: What did you enjoy most about writing this story and what do you think readers will take away from it? BJ: When I write a werewolf book, I approach the story with the idea that the werewolves live among us. The shapeshifters have rules, problems and fall in love. The paranormal story takes on a real quality. I hope readers will be able to look at a mountain range and imagine that it’s pack land and wolves living there are shapeshifters. HH: What else do you have in store for lucky readers? BJ: My latest release is Covenant, the fourth book in my Dragonfire series from Changeling Press. In April, look for Night Sins, my second book about the Cemetery Vampires introduced in Eternity Factor. Night Sins is a Changeling Press release. HH: How does 2013 promise to be different from 2012 for you? BJ: I’m taking a two-month respite from writing during the summer to enjoy an extended hiking vacation. I won’t have a computer and internet connection will be limited. I’ve never taken so much time away from writing. It’s going to be interesting. HH: Where do you find inspiration for your stories? BJ: Ideas come from news stories, conversations, or songs. Sometimes I brainstorm with my friend and fellow author Emily Brightwell. HH: What's your writing schedule like? BJ: I like to write early in the morning and I write almost everyday. It’s an ongoing process. When one book is finished I always have another WIP. HH: What's your favorite way to interact with readers? BJ: I like to do events like the TRS parties. I really enjoy the comments. HH: What are you most looking forward to in 2013? BJ: I’m really looking forward to a visit with a sister that lives in West Virginia. It’s been a few years since we’ve gotten together so that makes 2013 exciting. HH: Thank you!
