An Interview with Sara Jay
By Holly Hewson for The Romance Studio

HH: Sara, thank you for talking with us at TRS BLUE. Your featured book is Falling for Fall. Where did the idea for this sizzling story originate?

SJ: As with so many great ideas these days, this started out as a flash fiction piece for a Changeling Press Challenge! Every week on the Changeling Yahoo loop, there is a challenge to write a 100-word story. The very first few sentences of Falling for Fall were my entry. You can join in reading and writing these challenges each week here: http://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/ChangelingPress/

HH: What do you like best about Autumn and why will readers identify with her?

SJ: Autumn is gutsy and down to earth. She enjoys having fun with her forest god but won't commit to him because she doesn't trust that he's serious enough for her. She's a paranormal cop, tough as nails, yet she's fun, too.

HH: What do you like best about Theo and why will readers love him?

SJ: Theo is a wisecracking Green Man of the forest who can't sit still for anything. He's almost never serious, and he both smells and looks like an enchanted forest--especially when he gets emotional and struggles to control his glamour. The only thing he's serious about is Autumn, yet he has to prove it to her.

HH: How did you go about creating their world?

SJ: Their world is actually in my hometown of St. Louis. I just gave it lots of creepies and crawlies that led to the formation of a new paranormal investigation unit that Autumn and Theo are part of.

HH: What else do you have in store for lucky readers?

SJ: There's a grisly crime scene, some major flirting, and two super hot scenes--one completely in public and the other sort-of in public!

HH: When did you know you wanted to be a writer?

SJ: Since I could hold a pen. I used to write stories with my grandmother before I was even in school.

HH: Do you have appearances, in person or online, planned for the fall?

SJ: This fall is being eaten up with our new home owner status, lots of homeschooling activities and other things, so not for the moment. You can always find out what's happening on my blog at http://sarajayserotica.wordpress.com/. I have a lot of freebies there, too.

HH: What inspires you in your writing?

SJ: A glimpse of something, or a character who won't let me sleep at night--when I get to sleep in the first place! :)

HH: What are you reading at the moment?

SJ: Laurell K. Hamilton's Anita Blake novels (I'm on the first one) and Jane Yolen's Bad Girls. I just finished the fourth Song of Ice and Fire book and am eagerly waiting for the fifth one from the library's on-hold list.

HH: Do you celebrate Halloween, and if so, how?

SJ:  Oh, yes. We celebrate all month long--and my bedroom is Halloween all year, with ravens, gargoyles and swords. (Lucky that my husband loves that stuff too, eh?) We celebrate Samhain with fortune telling, trick or treating and honoring lost loved ones. We dress up and go to about a dozen Halloween activities at local libraries, the zoo, etc. too. My little girl's birthday is also near Halloween so we usually have a theme party for that, and this year we are also having a Harry Potter party.

HH: Thank you! Sounds wonderful!
