Karyn Gerrard

Life changed for Deanna Brooks the night she attended a book signing for her aunt’s best-selling paranormal romance series. There she met Burney ‘The Cover God’ Sheridan. The model for the series’ fictional vampire hero, Burn is beyond handsome and has an overabundance of Irish charm. He’s too good to be true.

Burn Sheridan, a man with scores of past lives, has a secret: he is a vampire. Meeting Deanna is agony because for the first time in over two hundred years, Burn experiences the rarest of vampiric needs -- the mate-of-the-soul connection. Keeping people at a distance has been Burn's existence for centuries, but Deanna makes his pledge of staying detached impossible.

Many obstacles lie ahead and the biggest of all may be Burn himself. Can Deanna and Burn overcome them and find lasting love?

About Karyn Gerrard

Living in a small town in a corner of Ontario, Canada, I wile away my spare time writing, reviewing and reading romance. As long as I can avoid being hit by a runaway moose here in this wilderness paradise, I assume everything is golden. Originally from the east coast of Canada.

I've been happily married for a long time to my own hero. His encouragement keeps me moving forward.

An Interview with Karyn Gerrard
By Holly Hewson for The Romance Studio

HH: Karyn, thank you so much for talking with us at TRS. Your featured book is My Vampire Cover Model. Where did the idea for this sexy tale?

KG: Thanks for having me!  I noticed all the pictures being posted on Facebook of hot cover model Paul Marron on a tour with New York Times Best selling paranormal author, Kresley Cole earlier this year. They were plugging the Book ‘Lothaire’ of which Paul is on the cover. My mind began to plot. What if the cover model in question really was -- a vampire? It was amazing how it all clicked into place. I had it written in no time! Pure fantasy, but lots of fun to write. And Cover Models are the best inspiration!

HH: What do you like about Deanna and what's her greatest strength?

KG: This book is not a typical paranormal, it’s a romance with a vampire hero. So Deanna does not fit the typical paranormal heroine. She is rather ordinary, cute, but no raving beauty. Strong, but not in a kick-ass, paranormal heroine way. She lives in a small town, still lives with her parents and works in a department store. Her greatest strength is her willingness to accept things outside her quiet, ordinary life.

HH: What do you like best about Burn and why will readers love him?

KG: Burn, (I couldn’t resist that name for a cover model!) a vampire, has been around for a couple of hundred years and is, in essence, a gentleman who possesses a romantic soul, much to his own surprise.  Yes, he feels the ‘mate of the soul’ connection, but is also astonished to realize he feels much more, for the first time in his long existence. Readers will love his romantic side, and the hit of vulnerability. Burn wants to be loved. Plus he is drop-dead gorgeous, always a plus for a hero!

HH: How did you go about creating the world where their story takes place?

KG: I used a lot of vampire tropes that are generally accepted and added a few touches of my own. This story is pure fantasy all the way. It is light-hearted, but emotional. I know nothing of the life of a cover-model, so I did on on-line investigating and read interviews some of them had given. (Hey, someone has to do it!) Also read blogs about Paul Marron’s bookstore visits to get a feel for it.

HH: What did you enjoy most about writing this story?

KG: Creating Burn’s back story. I love history, so it was enjoyable to have him mention specific times and places...and people. Hey, Burn played chess with Benjamin Franklin!  Also was pleased to work in one of my favorite movies, Casablanca, as a romantic backdrop for the couple. Burn saw it for the first time in London on the big screen in 1942. Not sure Deanna was overly impressed. lol~

HH: What else do you have in store for lucky readers?

KG: A lot. I have been very busy! Nov 9th is the release of THE HERO SANDWICH which I co-wrote with Gayl Taylor. From Breathless Press, a M/F, F/M/F, Cougar/Contemporary. In December, my short story for Decadent Publishing’s The Edge Line, THE BLIND CUPID, Historical/BDSM(light). Also in December, That Christmas Feeling with Evernight Publishing. I have just signed two more contracts. MY HIGHLANDER COVER MODEL (a sequel of sorts to MVCM) from Decadent Publishing and BLACK HEART from Evernight Publishing, book 3 of my paranormal series. Whew!

HH: What are you most excited about in your career right now?

KG: The fact I am published and continue to get acceptances! I am still floored every time it happens. Right now I seem to be in a good zone for writing, so I am taking advantage of it, Strike while the iron is hot!

HH: What are you looking forward to most in the rest of 2012?

KG: To finish two historical novellas I am working on and get them submitted before the end of the year. Looking forward to a stress-free rest of the year. Might be wishful thinking~

HH: What are you reading at the moment?

KG: I am on book two of Jennifer Ashley’s shifter series, Primal Bonds. I just discovered her this year and have also caught up on her historical Mackenzie brothers’ series. I adore her writing and storytelling. So fluid and readable and entertaining.

HH: Do you have a writing hero and if so, who would it be?

KG: I would have to say every romance author I have ever read. Everyone influences me. Though I will pick one. The first romance novel I read was Simply Love from Mary Balogh. The book still impacts me to this day. If I can ever reach even half of the emotion in anything I write as Mary has in this book, I will be a happy camper.

HH: Thank you!
