An Interview with Cherie Amour
By Holly Hewson for The Romance Studio
HH: Cherie, thank you for talking with us at TRS BLUE! Your featured book is Fateful Desires. Where did you get the idea for this steamy tale?
CA: Thanks for having me here on TRS BLUE. =)
I'm a true lover of steamy historical and paranormal romances, so the inspiration came naturally. The idea blossomed when I was hiking in a national park one afternoon. The image of the hero, John, lying on the ground, wounded and unconscious, alone and in desperate need of an angel's aid, fermented in my mind's eye and so the tale was born after that.
HH: What do you like best about Geva and why will readers relate to her?
CA: I love Geva because she represents the innocent and na´ve part of us we try so desperately to hide in life. Plus her stubborn, curious and insatiable nature makes her such an interesting and dynamic character.
Fate has served her more than a heaping share of bad luck in the past. I think readers can most relate to this. We've all had a streak of bad luck that never seems to end at one point or another in our lives and the reader will be rooting for her luck to change soon. The fact it's delivered through a paranormal channel, filled with surprises and mystery, well, that makes it all the more fantastic and interesting, I think.
HH: What do you like best about John and why will readers love him?
CA: Ah, John in my eyes is the perfect handsome, irresistible hero. He is charming, witty, and always in good humor. He'll go out of his way to turn your frown to a smile, even if he ends up looking like a clown in the attempt. Social standings mean nothing to him. He doesn't see the difference between a nobleman and a peasant. He'll even sacrifice his life if it means the heroine is out of harm's way.
I think readers will love him because of his deep devotion to the heroine. Even though something in his past keeps haunting and tormenting him, he never loses focus on what is important. Here, the most beautiful and enchanting woman has come into his life and he knows he can never let her go. Even if his mysterious past keeps pulling them apart, he'll move heaven and earth to be with the only woman he loves with all his heart.
HH: What sort of research did you do for this book?
CA: Not much. Basically I researched the type of lifestyle serfs were accustomed to in Medieval Times as well as their staple foods in this era.
HH: What else do you have in the works?
CA: At the moment I'm working on several stories, but the one I'm having the most fun with is an erotic Steampunk ménage novella, tentatively titled "Under the Sea Chronicles: Seduction and Secrets". I'm co-writing it with my good friend, author Isabel Dyakov. Our passion and admiration for Jules Verne's ingenious imagination is strongly reflected through this story. I love working with her, not only is she a very talented author but she's a great editor, too.
HH: How do you view the future of ebooks?
CA: The revolution has been going on for a few years and ebooks appear to be winning the popularity contest against printed books. I think ebooks will continue to grow in popularity and change with technology and readers' needs.
I'm waiting for the day when holographic narrated ebooks are created. I'd love to have a holographic image of Vincent Price in theatre make up narrating the complete collection of Edgar Allan Poe's poems and short stories while the text scrolls under his image in front of me. Now that would be the perfect Halloween present. =)
HH: How much of your day is devoted to your writing career?
CA: I'd say about three to four hours a day are devoted just to writing. That is when the muse cooperates. If it doesn't, then I read or edit and wait for the inspiration to come to me. =)
HH: What's your favorite way to interact with readers?
CA: Since I'm pretty much a hermit and am not into online networking, I use emails and my website as my primary means of communication and prefer readers correspond with me via these routes.
HH: What is your favorite Halloween type/themed story? Why?
CA: I'm not into blood and gore, or zombies. But I love psychological horror. Any story or movie that let's me scare myself is what I love. Our minds, our own fears, and our imagination all mixed into one make the perfect elixir for horror in my eyes.
HH: What do you most enjoy about Autumn?
CA: My favorite holiday is in autumn -- Halloween. I love watching scary movies or reading eerie, haunting stories at night around this time. I also love the changing autumn foliage. It just takes my breath away.
HH: Thank you!
