About Francis Drake

With my best friend, Dee S. Knight, I write sexy stories set in favorite places like San Francisco and Las Vegas, as well as unusual places like Tajikistan. It's exciting to let my imagination go, creating story lines that feature strong, interesting women learning (and teaching!) all there is to know about sensuality in the company of equally strong men. I travel the country now, searching for the next great place to set a sexy story.

An Interview with Francis Drake
By Holly Hewson for The Romance Studio

HH: Francis, thank you for talking with us at TRS BLUE. Please tell us about your featured book, Las Vegas Honeymoon.

FD: Holly, I enjoy being here on TRS, so thanks for having me.

Las Vegas Honeymoon is about a woman who dumps her fiancé on the day of their wedding when she discovers he's been cheating. She decides to take her ticket and go to Las Vegas, however. They were to spend their honeymoon there. Instead, she'll use it as a fantasy place to heal her heart. Right away she meets her high school crush. Who better to help her forget the past and start new?

HH: Not many women catch their fiance cheating just minutes before the wedding. Fewer still decide to miss their "I dos" for a similar reason. Where did you get the idea for this sizzling tale?

FD: I tried to think of the worst that could happen to a bride, and finding out the man she was to marry is a jerk was it. How much harder could it be than to overhear two women talk about him just before she is about to walk down the aisle? And if one of the women is a bridesmaid and friend? I piled it on for poor Mary. =)

HH: Tell us about Mary. What do you like about her?

FD: She had the courage to leave the guy, even though the situation was humiliating. That took real nerve. And she learns quickly to accept her past and love herself instead of seeing herself in a man's eyes.

HH: How is she flawed?

FD: Mary was chubby in school, and not a popular girl. She let that dictate her life for a long time. She valued herself based on other people's values.

HH: What do you like best about Dan and why might he be perfect for her?

FD: Dan always saw beyond Mary's looks. He liked the girl--and loves the woman--for who she is rather than how she looks. Although, he really enjoys the way she looks when they run into each other in Las Vegas!

HH: What else do you have in store for lucky readers?

FD: I'm working on the third Passionate PI book. In this one, Derek and Thia recognize they love each other, so I'm enjoying writing their story.

HH: How long have you been writing and what keeps you working on your stories each day?

FD: I've been writing for about 12 or 13 years, but just for my own pleasure and Dee's. Now we often write together, and that's a blast.

I don't write every day due to job demands. Instead, I take a few days and write in a flurry. Then it takes an interpreter (Dee) to help straighten it all out.

HH: What would you most like to accomplish in your career in 2010?

FD:I'd love to finish a series I've been putting together on and off for years, a fantasy with dragons and portals into other worlds.

HH: What would we find in your to-be-read stack?

FD: Jenny Penn, Amber Carlton, a couple of non-ménage erotic romances, and of course anything Dee or Anne have going on.

HH: Do you have any special plans for the holidays this year?

FD: Since the new job keeps me away from home, I hope to be somewhere with Dee. Wherever that is, I'll feel like I'm home and can relax.

I hope you and your readers have a wonderful holiday season, Holly. Thanks so much for the chance to talk about my work.

HH: Thank you!
